The Boyfriend Bet

“I go on my first good date in forever, and you crash it, drag me off the dance floor, and then try to have your wicked way with me.”

“I didn’t try to,” he says.

I hold my hand up. “Honey, you just sucked my juices off your fingers. Nothing says you don’t want me like devouring every drop of me that you can.”

His eyes narrow, and all I can do is laugh as I push past him.

“I’m going back into the club, and I’m going to dance and have a good time, and I’ll be back at your place in an hour or two or three, whenever. And I don’t expect to see you in the club again for the rest of the evening.”

“You’re really going back to that date?”

“I really am, Brett, because you know what? Marcus is a nice guy, and he deserves my full attention.”

“Okay, but we both know when you’re dancing with him, you’re going to be thinking about me. You’re going to be wondering what I’m doing back at my apartment with my fingers. If I’m breathing in your scent. If I’m licking them. If I’m rubbing them on my cock.” He grins. “But, hey, enjoy the rest of your night.”

I gasp. “You know what, Brett? You’re an even better actor than I thought.”

“Excuse me? What’s that meant to mean?”

“You’re acting like a jealous boyfriend, exactly like I’d expect if this were real. But it’s not real, right?” I give him a long, lingering look. “Because if it were real, you’d have some real decisions to make.”

“I’ll see you later,” he says. “I need to find Roman.”

“You do that, and I’ll enjoy the rest of my evening.”

I head back into the club, my heart beating fast. I don’t know what just happened, but I do know I’m more turned on than ever, and I know Brett and I are headed down a path neither of us thought existed.

As I make my way to the dance floor, I see Marcus standing there, moving his arms back and forth like a goofy robot, and I feel a pang of guilt. He’s a nice guy. A fun guy. And totally not the man I want to be dancing with.

Chapter Twelve

ROSIE

“I’m surprised to see you back so early.” Brett looks up at me from the couch as I enter his apartment.

“It’s two o’clock in the morning.”

“Like I said, I thought you and lover boy would be out all night, dancing the night away.”

Brett stands up, and I can’t help but notice he’s only wearing a pair of black briefs. I can’t help but admire his chest. It’s muscular and tan, and I swallow hard. I hiccup. I had a few more drinks, and I’m buzzed.

“Well, it was a first date. I didn’t want him to think I’d stay out all night.”

“So, I guess you do have some rules then.” Brett comes toward me. “You had a good evening?”

“I had fun.” I nod slowly.

I’m not about to tell him I spent the rest of the night thinking about his fingers in my panties or wondering what he was doing once he got home. I don’t want Brett to think he was right.

“Well, I’m glad to see you made it back safe and sound and that Marcus was a gentleman.”

He looks at my lips, and I can see him scrutinizing my face.

“What are you doing?”

“Checking to see if you have any hickeys.”

“Do you really think I’d make out with him on a first date?”
