“What dating lesson?”

“I mean, we’re both in on this, right, Rosie? I’ll go on the date if you have your dating lesson.”

“Fine, but I think it’s weird for us to have the dating lesson before your date.”

“I think it’s quite perfect. So, you’ll come over to my place tomorrow at three?”

“I’m working until five. I can’t.”

“So, then come over to my place tomorrow at six.”

“But then what time will your date be?”

“I don’t know. Eight. Tell her I’ll meet her at Mama’s Kitchen for a drink or something.”

“A first date at Mama’s Kitchen? That doesn’t sound …”

“Hey, you’re not going to tell me where I’m taking my dates, Rosie. You’re just setting them up.”

“Okay, I’ll tell her to meet you at Mama’s Kitchen at eight.”

“Perfect. I’ll see you tomorrow at six.”

“Fine,” I say, “though I don’t really need you coaching me. I do just fine by myself.”

“I think we both know that’s not true; otherwise, you wouldn’t have asked me to help you in the first place.”

“Whatever, Brett.”

“Whatever, Rosie. See you tomorrow.” He pauses and then lowers his voice. “We can both make this interesting, Rosie. I’m not going to lose this bet.”

“Let’s see about that, Brett.” I lower my voice as well. “Maybe I’m going to make this very hard on you to win.”

“I don’t mind hard … if you don’t mind wet,” he growls, and I gasp at his words.

He hangs up, and I just stand there for a few moments, feeling exhilarated and nervous at the same time. I sure hope I’m not getting in over my head.

Chapter Six

BRETT

Mesmerizing light-brown eyes gaze at me from the couch. The same eyes I’ve been staring at on my phone since the other morning. I still can’t believe Rosie sent me such a sexy selfie the other morning, and I am annoyed I haven’t deleted it. I’ve spent far too much time staring at her perfectly parted pink lips every day. More time than I care to admit.

Rosie sits there, looking eager as she waits for me to begin my first lesson. I’m not even sure exactly what I’m doing. I’m not even sure why I offered to be a dating coach. I’m far from an expert.

“So, what are we going to do? What’s my first lesson, teacher?”

She licks her lips eagerly, and I wonder if she’s doing that on purpose, if she’s trying to tease me, if she’s trying to turn me on, but I’m not going to let her get the better of me.

“Well, I figured we would start with lesson one.”

“And what is lesson one?”

“Lesson one is”—I pause as I rack my brain—“we are going to identify your relationship goals.”

“My relationship goals?” Her eyes flick to my mouth and then further down and then back up to my eyes.

“Focus, please, Rosie.”
