“Guess what,” I say.
She frowns. “Wait. Are you guys holding hands and smiling? This is so weird. I’ve never seen Brett smile this wide before. What’s going on? How did the weekend go? Did your—”
“We’re together,” I say.
“What? You’re together?”
“We’re boyfriend and girlfriend. For real.”
She jumps up. “No way, José!”
“Yeah, way. I love him, and he loves me.”
“Holy shit, I knew this was going to happen!” She grins at me.
“You did?”
“I totally did. I told Lucia you two were really and truly in love. Nobody’s that good of an actor outside of Hollywood.”
“Not to be mean,” I say, laughing, “but we kept telling you we were faking it.”
“And I totally didn’t believe you. Congratulations! Okay, you’re both invited to a party I’m having next weekend.”
“Wait. Not the party I think you’re talking about?”
My eyes widen, and she grins.
“Everyone deserves a party. I’ll get the invitations ready.” She sits back down on the couch.
“What is she talking about?” Brett asks, and I shake my head.
I pull him toward the bedroom.
“What was that about?”
“You don’t want to know, trust me,” I say, laughing.
I close the door behind us, and he takes my hands.
“That’s fine. I just want to think about you, and love you, and kiss you all night,” he says softly. “It’s been eight hours and twenty-nine minutes since I was last inside you, Rosie Meadows.”
“Really? You’ve been counting the minutes?”
“Of course. Because that’s the only time I truly feel like I’m where I’m meant to be.”
“Corny. You know that?”
He groans. “Maybe that didn’t sound right.”
“Maybe it didn’t,” I say, laughing. “But you know what does sound right?”
“What?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Forever and ever?” I ask.
