“Of course,” he says.

We hurry up the stairs and into the house. My heart is racing as we make our way to the bedroom. I’m so pissed, but I don’t know what to say. We step inside, and I close the door.

“Are you okay?” I ask, looking down into Rosie’s face.

Her lips twitch, and the next thing I know, she’s laughing.

“What’s so funny?”

“This is like a fucking soap opera,” she says. “If I wasn’t living it, I wouldn’t believe that just happened. Your mother is crazy, by the way. Your dad is a doormat, and Veronica must have some really high self-esteem.” She giggles. “And did you see their faces when you said we’re engaged? Your mom nearly fell to the ground. I would’ve paid money to see her actually hit the ground.”

“You’re okay? You don’t want to cry?”

“Cry? No. It takes more than them to make me feel bad about myself. One thing I’m grateful to my family for is that even though we didn’t have shit, we never lacked self-confidence. I give Sage the credit for that. She’s always told us we’re just as good as everyone else.” She smiles at me. “I know your mother and father probably hope they’re making me feel like shit, but all I think is that they’re losers. And I hate to say that because they’re your parents, but …”

I start laughing. “No, they are losers. I’m so thankful you didn’t take their words personally.”

“It’s okay. Maybe if I were your real fiancée, I’d feel some type of way, but I don’t care. They suck. They absolutely suck.”

“Yeah, they do.”

“We can go back out front if you want. If you brought me back here to check that I’m okay, I’m literally fine. I’d love to put them in their place.”

“I know. I thought maybe we could have a few moments alone. I haven’t seen you in a while, and you look very pretty today.”

“Are you trying to come on to me, Brett Selleck?”

“Would I ever try to come on to you, Rosie Meadows?”

“I think you would. I think you are.”

“And if I was, what would you say to that?”

“I wouldn’t say no, even though we just got to your grandparents’ house and it would be very tacky.”

“What would be tacky?”

“I don’t know. If we had sex right now, it would make me seem so low class.” She licks her lips. “So, actually, maybe it’s a really good idea. Plus, technically, we’re engaged now. So, is it really that tacky?”

“It’s not tacky at all.” I unbutton my shirt and throw it on the floor. “In fact, I think it’s almost obligatory.”

“Obligatory, huh?” She pulls her dress up over her head and tosses it aside.

My breath catches as I take her in, in a pink thong and a lacy white bra. “Fucking A, you’re so sexy.”

“Oh, yeah?” She sucks on her finger and steps toward me. Her fingers go to my belt. She pulls it off, drops it to the floor, and unzips me. “We shouldn’t do this,” she says as she pulls my pants down.

“And yet you’re getting me naked.”

“I didn’t say we’re not going to. I said we shouldn’t.” She looks up at me as she tugs my boxers down. My cock springs free, and she lightly circles it with her finger and thumb. “You’re already kind of hard. It would be such a waste if we went back out there without taking care of Mr. Brett.”

“Mr. Brett? That’s his name now?”

“We can call him something else if you want.”

“I’m happy to call him whatever you want,” I say as I reach behind her and unclasp her bra.

I pull it aside and stare at her beautiful breasts. I lightly trace a circle around each nipple, and she moans as I lean down and suck on her left one.
