I know he’d listen if I sent him away, but he’s a good kid. And he’s proving himself a worthy member of our crew with each passing day.
Well, except for his questionable sense of humor.
I dip my chin in acknowledgment. “She’s in the original room I set up for her. She’s resting, so stand guard outside. We’ll be gathering her things and moving her to my place.”
Tank doesn’t even blink at the news, but my VP lifts a brow.
Thankfully, Ghost trusts me enough to keep his mouth shut. He follows close behind, filling me in on the plan for Demon and what that means for Preacher’s club.
One thing is certain. We can’t keep letting the Saints go unchecked.
We’ve experienced firsthand what they’re capable of when they think they have the right.
“You contacting National?”
“We’ve got no other choice. We have to take them out once and for all.”
Ghost cuts me with his stare. “And if they won’t approve a war?”
We exchange a sharp look. I don’t have to say it out loud. We’ve been brothers long enough that he already knows what I plan to do.
The question is, will my brothers have my back if it means National coming after all our asses?
“We’ll see what they say before we make any decisions. Got it?”
Ghost dips his chin. “I’ll get the crew.”
I take a few steps away, then pause. “Ghost?”
“Yeah, Prez?”
“The rest of the girls. They okay?”
“No one else got hurt. They’re shaken up, is all.”
I nod. “Have a few Prospects stay with them, too. Until we get this shitshow sorted, I want them all protected.”
He nods again, and I don’t miss the respect in his eyes.
I head for the back of the clubhouse and unlock the door to our meeting room. Flipping on the lights, I glance around and remind myself why I’m here.
This is my club. My responsibility.
The large table will soon be filled with my brothers. Club patches adorn the wall, another reminder of where our loyalties lie.
I breathe deeply, the familiar, comforting scent of oil and leather filling my lungs. This is home. Until a few days ago, this place and my club were the only things I’d lay my life down for.
Now that list includes Kaylie.
I close my eyes, letting the image of her beneath me fill my mind. Her soft moans. The way she said my name.
She’s given me another reason to live, and I won’t stop until I know she’s safe. I already know what I have to do to make that happen. The guys might not approve, but what good is being Prez if I can’t use it to my benefit once in a while?
The heavy thud of boots on concrete reaches my ears as the men filter into the room. I take my place at the head of the table and lean back in my chair.
My brothers fill every available seat. We’re all on edge after the attack. Low murmurs spread through the room, quickly growing louder.
I don’t get a chance to call Church to order before someone calls out, “We’re going to war, right? Demon’s attack—”
