Circle, circle. Tap, tap.
“I don’t want to do this without you, Easton.”
“If you had to, you could. But that’s not going to happen, so don’t stress about it, okay?”
Nodding, she licks her lips and then peers up at me, a heat in her gaze that wasn’t there before penetrating right into my eyes. “Thank you.”
“I’m just doing what I said I would, Lennon. Putting you and the baby first.”
She hums. “This is…a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.”
“How so?”
Her gaze slides over my bare chest before dropping straight to my crotch, lingering for a few seconds as her tongue darts out to lick her lips.
You staring at me like that makes other things hard, woman.
“Lennon?” I say, breaking her trance. When she lifts her gaze, I can see the exact moment she realizes where she’s been staring.
“Um, I—I need to go to the bathroom,” she says quickly, practically leaping from the couch before heading to the back of the house.
But I call bullshit.
Those hormones of hers were alive and well just now—and focused squarely below my waist.
I just wish she’d let me do something about it for her instead of fighting with herself at every turn.
If you don’t offer, she’ll never know it’s an option, Easton.
You know, kind of how you didn’t offer to take her to prom.
Groaning, I stand from the couch, adjust myself, and then head toward the kitchen, cleaning up the cooking mess. I’m done pretty quickly, though, and when I finally look up, I realize that Lennon never returned.
“Lennon?” I call out as I walk cautiously down the hall to our bedroom.
The sight that greets me when I walk through the doorway feels like seeing a glimpse of a future with this woman I’ve always dreamed of.
Lennon is fast asleep on the bed, hugging that pregnancy pillow like a life preserver.
She looks so peaceful, so comfortable, and it’s all I can do to not take a picture of her just like this so I can prove to myself later that this was real.
On second thought, that’s exactly what I should do.
I snap the picture quietly, then walk over to her side of the bed, pull the covers over her so she doesn’t get cold, and press a kiss to the top of her head.
I bend close and whisper, “Sweet dreams, sweetheart.”
Sadly, I only hope I’m in those dreams.
Chapter 17
Lennon
What Did She Say About Prom??
“Your mom probably hates me now.”
Easton cruises along the driveway leading to the main house on the Buckley Ranch, a place I haven’t visited since high school—which comes as no surprise to either of us. “Trust me. She could never.”
