“I’m on my way there now,” Arden answered. “Why?”

Reaching across the table, Natalia picked up Lucia’s untouched glass of wine and drained it in one gulp. Gripping the edge of the table, she pushed herself to her feet.

“Because I’m going with you.”

CHAPTER 14

HOT MAMA

Wizard took one look at Doom’s face when he walked into the clubhouse after work and knew that whatever the brother was waiting to tell him would ruin an already shitty day.

“Can whatever shit you want to tell me wait until I’ve had something to eat?” he asked tiredly.

“I can wait,” Doom said distastefully. “The rest of the brothers won’t. Taylor’s here, and she wants to talk to you. I put her in the office.”

Doom’s sour expression mirrored those of everyone else sitting around the club. Burn’s ex-wife had been the bane of their existence for more years than Wizard cared to count.

“What does she want to talk to me for?”

“You’ll have to ask her. She wasn’t exactly forthcoming with the details.”

Wizard made a sarcastic sound. “I bet she wasn’t. Did you call Burn and ask for a heads-up?”

“I did. He doesn’t know, either. He wants you to call him after she leaves so he knows if he needs to come back from Louisville.”

“How long has she been here?”

“Ten minutes.”

Wizard looked toward Puck, who was sitting at the bar. “Get the chicken dinner out of the freezer and put it in the microwave for five minutes. Five minutes is all I’m giving this bitch.”

He’d rather walk barefoot through a field of dog shit than talk to Burn’s ex-wife. From the moment she’d first walked through the club’s door, he’d recognized her for what she was—a fucking drama queen.

Striding to his office, he opened the door to find Taylor already wearing her woe-is-me mask. The bitch had never managed to fool him for so much as a heartbeat. For a woman who had supposedly lost the love of her life, she certainly enjoyed using the tragedy to her advantage, keeping the brothers catering to her every need.

Wizard had kept his opinions about Taylor to himself for too long. Two brothers had paid the price for that mistake—Reaper and Burn.

“What the fuck do you want?” he asked harshly as he took the chair behind his desk. His hand went to the side of the computer, and he pressed a button.

Wizard had to give the conniving bitch credit; her beautiful face became even more dejected.

“Please, Wizard …” Taylor leaned forward and placed a hand on his thigh. “I hate that we’re no longer friends. Just because Burn and I aren’t together anymore doesn’t mean I don’t miss the club and the friends I made here.”

He glanced down at the hand still resting on his thigh then gave her a sharp look. She was smart enough to remove it.

“Taylor, let’s get one thing straight. We were never—ever—friends.”

Her red-lipsticked mouth trembled, but her expression didn’t crack. Neither did his.

“I’m tired and hungry. Get to the point.”

“I came to ask you to make Burn back off from trying to get custody.”

“No.”

Wizard started to rise from his chair.

“The only reason he can afford to fight me for custody is that you’re paying his legal fees and somehow the club has connections to the governor. If that support disappeared, Burn would have no choice but to drop the custody hearing.”
