The Librarian Did Me Dewey

A quick nap wouldn’t hurt anything? Right?

I’d slept in books before. It was peaceful.

But nothing more so than what I had right there.

Lex would be my forever.

Chapter Fifteen

Lex

I woke with a pounding headache, staring at the unfamiliar walls around me as my thoughts gathered and the pain in my ass and muscles made sense. I needed to work out more if fucking made my muscles burn.

Cum and slick leaked from me as I sat up with a miserable noise that made me swear and roused my naked coworker. “Mff… Go back to sleep. Chickens ain’t even up yet.”

I checked for my phone and panicked when I didn’t find it. Fuck, I was going to be late for work! Isa was going to— Well she might not fire me, but I didn’t want to piss off the magical librarian lesbian ghost book witch.

I scrambled out of bed and made it to the shower, desperate to clean the sex off me. Heat sex was no joke. I’d finally experienced my adolescent dream, and I couldn’t even look the guy in the eye after. Fuck my life.

The shower was cold, because of course it was. It was one of those dystopian worlds meant to punish omegas within an inch of their life. A part of me recognized it for what it was, punishment for what I’d just done. I thumped my head against the shower wall and exhaled, freezing when the door opened and Zeke shuffled his way in with a groan, muttering about his dick burning. “I have to make water. Do you mind?”

“Just, like, don’t flush. I don’t think the water can get any colder, but it’s like… Yeah. It will get colder if I know the author well enough.” I shuddered.

“Understood,” he grumbled as I tuned out the sound of the world’s longest whizz.

After the toilet lid plunked, he cleared his throat. “We good?”

“I should be asking you that. I’m so sorry!” I couldn’t contain the whine in my voice as I turned the shower off and slid out, doing the awkward shower-curtain-toga thing as I reached out to grab a towel. Like he hadn’t been railing me buck-ass naked the entire night.

He smirked up at me from a perch on the sink vanity, arms crossed, wearing nothing but his boxers. “So, we both agree this was a little out of character for us?”

“I mean… Out of character or severely in character.” I cleared my throat. “I don’t normally… I’m a picky… I mean, I’d do it again… With you. I mean…” The amusement spreading across his face made my cheeks grow painfully hot. I scoffed as I got the towel, the poor thing threadbare and limp. “Dude.”

“My turn for a shower.” He waved me off and we switched places.

He seemed to adjust to the cold quickly, scrubbing at all the important spots as I waited, towel cinched at my waist.

After a few minutes, I glanced around and realized one important thing. “There’s only one towel.”

I kind of did an awkward shuffle as I moved to cover myself and handed the damp towel over, breath catching as I caught a glimpse of his lean frame, taut muscles and fabulous cock. Still, I forfeited the towel and backed out of the room, cheeks still burning.

As I shut the bathroom door, I scrounged around for my clothes and threw on the shirt and pants I’d arrived in this book in, the bakery uniform.

So, when he joined me, he stretched out and sighed. “C’mon. I’ll show you how to use the key.”

I reached for the chain at my neck, following the long trail down my chest where I’d forgotten it existed. I’d gotten used to it so quickly.

“So, your key is tied to the library, and when you hold it in your hand, imagine twisting it in a lock, and it helps as a focal point to get out of books. Makes a door in your mind. Also, if you’re panicked, bite down on the bit and it’ll send an alarm. I’ll come after you.” Zeke showed me his remarkably similar key, older and more scuffed with wear. “You’re lucky. Before you, there was just whoever popped in once a week to check on me, at least since Isa died.”

My stomach clenched.

“But no worries, we’re in the library, so death in a book will immediately eject you and the library has the stasis spells.” He waved his hand.

“How do spells and things work?” I found myself warming up to the idea of being in this world for good.

“So, we have inscriptors that can bind functions to books they write. Sometimes we have a deus that knows what they are that can do something, and there’s a few archivists that can bring magic from within a book into the real world—” He pointedly stared at me.

“I could do that?” I stared at him, and he shrugged.
