“And then what? Afterwards, are you going to let Castor put a baby in you too?” she snarls.

Hurt slashes through me. “I don’t know. I’d have to speak with both of them first.”

She says nothing to that, choosing instead to glare at a spot on the wall, like she’s trying to burn through my floral wallpaper.

Finally, after a long pause, I ask, “If I wish to go back to them, are you going to stop me?”

“No.” She won’t meet my gaze. “You’re an adult woman. You can make your own choices. However stupid they may be.”

I can’t stand her tone. “Ami, there’s so much more to their story! They didn’t kidnap me for the fun of it. Lux had his reasons.”

“They always do,” she grumbles. “But that won’t stop me hating them for putting you through all that.”

“They never hurt me.”

“But can you look me in the eye and tell me that you weren’t scared? Even once?” she asks sternly.

A lump forms in my throat. “No.”

“Then my point is made,” she huffs. “I will support you through your pregnancy, but I cannot support this… union.”

“Ami!”

“I’ve made up my mind.” She stands up, heading towards the window. “I love you, Eden, but if you think I can accept my little sister falling in love with any men psychotic enough to—”

My door swings open as her own psychopath, dressed in the same stolen guard uniform he wore earlier today, barrels in.

I almost laugh. Perhaps Ami should remember how she and Kasimir got together before she criticises my relationship, but the panic on his face makes me pause.

“Darling.” He cringes at her. “We may have a slight situation.”

Her brow dips. “What is it?”

He’s about to reply when a loud crash and half a dozen squeals cut him off.

“What was that?” Ami demands.

“Ah…” He clutches the back of his neck. “You know how we needed to find Camellia’s cloak and we weren’t exactly sure where in the princesses’ wing it might be, so I cleared all the guards for you?”

“Yes?” she murmurs as I consider what he just said. There aren’t any guards here?

“And, just like you said, I didn’t tell any of the princesses because we didn’t want them feeling scared they weren’t protected?”

“Yes,” she snarls.

I forgot how scary Amaryllis can be when she’s angry.

“Well, a few of the girls seem to have realised that there weren’t any guards and are currently treating the hallways like it’s a playing field.”

That’s not so bad, I think to myself, sneaking off my bed.

“And Heather is currently bleeding from her nose while Iris is using her blood to paint the walls.”

“Heather’s bleeding?” Ami screeches. “Why are you in here and not helping her?”

“Well, Kalimeris tried to help, since she’s now under the impression that her gift is healing. But then somehow that ended with Gilia getting blood on her skirt, and now, well…”

“Stars above.” She marches over to the door.
