Stay awake and shake it off this time, Jenna.
I didn’t recognize the bedroom or the bed I was sleeping in.
The room was stark, with nothing but a bed and a small desk against a bare wall.
What the hell?
I swept the hair out of my face as I tried to sit up.
I wasn’t in my pajamas.
I was wearing a pair of jeans and a sweater.
I briefly remembered dressing in these clothes, but it immediately left my brain.
What in the hell was I forgetting?
Something definitely wasn’t right.
I tried to shake off the extreme confusion in my head, but it just wasn’t clearing.
I never woke up this way, and it was scaring the crap out of me.
“Relax,” a soft female voice said as a bottle of water was placed in my hand. “You’re our guest here. Your man and Mr. Moran are here to collect you.”
I looked at the girl standing beside my bed.
She was young, probably still a teenager. Her English was good but she had a very pronounced accent.
I took a large sip of the water as my memory started to flood back into my head.
Rico…
Kidnapped…
Going to Ecuador…
Holy shit!
The last thing I remembered was the poke of a sharp needle in my arm and then…nothing.
That asshole had drugged me. That was why I was so confused.
“Where is Rico?” I asked in a tremulous voice.
“You won’t be seeing him again,” the girl assured me. “Please don’t be afraid. You’re in my father’s home, and he has no desire to hurt you.”
“Who is your father?” I asked cautiously.
“Someone who is afraid of Mr. Moran,” she said stoically.
“Who is Mr. Moran?” I questioned.
He couldn’t be a relative of mine.
I didn’t have family.
“He’s a very powerful man,” she replied in an awed tone. “He’s on his way here with your man.”
