“Incredible, your hair—"
“Fur,” I corrected.
“Fur,” she adjusted, “it feels so natural.”
I suppressed the shudder of pleasure working its way from my scalp to my aching ballocks, while doing my best to bide the tension building steadily between us, her cherry blossom scented arousal thickening. Miko glanced away, removing her wandering hands before reaching my horns, a stab of disappointment piercing my gut and my eyebrows scrunched together.
Scenting the air, I caught traces of her arousal and groaned, battling my instincts to bite and claim. Pain seared through my damaged brain, unmooring my lucidity.
Freddy hummed, “Ooor, you could just kill her and be done with it all.”
I growled, not taking the bait this time.
“Got off me,” Miko ground out.
“I don’t think I will.”
“No?”
“Nope.” I grinned, making sure to flash both sets of fangs. “Did you really believe I didn’t smell your arousal earlier as you wrote? Your thick musk perfumed the air so heavily I debated jerking off before coming to find you.”
Her eyes widened, pupils dilating, and she licked her parted lips.
What I didn’t mention was that I knew where she was the entire time, watching her unguarded emotions play over her face as she wrote page after page in her journal. The debate about rubbing one out was completely true. I intend to have her in my sight as I pleasured myself from now on. In fact, someday soon I need to fulfill that fantasy. I’’ll just have to be careful I don’t get any spend on the books.
“W-wh…” Miko stuttered, then shook her head once, her braid thwacking into the upholstery, stare hardening. “I’ve no idea what you’re talking about.”
Humor bubbled behind my ribs. “Using my own line against me, eh? I see how it is.”
I admired her determination to shield her emotions, and yet it only made me all the more eager to pry them out of her, one by one.
“What if I told you I can’t breathe?”
“I’d call you a liar, lass.”
“Don’t start with that shit,” my not-mate said and winced. “I was kidding before, but now I’m not. You’re compressing my lungs and it’s starting to hurt.”
“Fuck. Sorry.” I peeled myself off Miko, my hands sliding to exposed portions of her thighs beneath the hem of her shorts, thoroughly savoring the play of her smooth, lightly tanned skin as the muscles flexed beneath my palms. I eased my arse onto my heels and lifted my hands, one rubbing over my face, its twin balling into a fist on my lap.
A faint, lavender glow materialized on a shelf just over Miko's right shoulder, but I disregarded the urge to look, instead feeling the progression of Huff’s magical signature as he fully winked into being.
“You're screwing this up,” he squeaked so quietly even I barely understood him, dramatically spreading all three tails wide at his back and widening his lavender eye. Miko arched a brow, her lips pursing slightly, then moving to one side, causing my attention to snag on the simple silver ball dimpling her cupid's bow.
“Is there something behind me?” She asked, peeking over her shoulder. From one breath to the next, Miko’s face hardened. “Wait,” she uttered, her eyes narrowing to slits as she sat up, straightening her spine. “Wait, wait, wait. Where the fuck were you an hour ago?”
I cringed. “Damn. I was really helping you wouldn’t remember that.”
My guts knotted as Miko gasped, scrambling from her seat and moving around my back, not hesitating before her warm minuscule hand pressed lightly against my wing.
I grunted loudly, the sound melting with my renewed purr and she yanked her hand away. Determination straightened my spine as I flared my moth wings wide until they met opposing bookcases, however, there wasn’t space to extend them fully. “It’s fine, Honeybee. You can touch me, that wasn't a sound of pain. My wings are just very sensitive at the base where they connect to my body. There are countless nerve endings there important for flight.”
“How?” She swallowed audibly, heart drumming away. “The injury is completely gone.” I shivered as she drug a hand across my wing, then repeats the gesture on the other.
“The H—” I cut myself off, remembering she didn’t know about the Heechus. I snagged her wrist with my tail and brought her around to face me, setting my hands on her hips. “I'm a supernatural creature. I heal quicker than most.” I punctuated the statement with a gigantic grin.
Miko opened her mouth and closed it, crossing her arms over her chest. “Why do I get the feeling you’re not telling me the full truth?”
I chuckled as her blue-violet eyes rolled to the ceiling and she blew out a harsh breath, causing her lips to vibrate. “That’s it, I give up. There's no goddamn logic involved when it comes to this,” she said flipping her hand vaguely in my direction but still staring at the ceiling.
