I frown. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You don’t bring women to Beckett’s house. Hell, you don’t bring them anywhere outside of London.”
“You make it sound like I have a harem locked up in the basement of the hotel. Weren’t you two complaining about my lack of love life the other night?”
He bites down a grin. “Oh, so touchy.”
“Just pointing out your contradictions.” I lift a brow.
“You banging her yet?” Caleb asks.
“Fuck off,” I tell him, good-naturedly. “And a gentleman never tells.”
“You’ve never been a gentleman,” Caleb points out. “You obviously like her. I can’t remember the last time you brought a woman to meet us.”
“You met Melodie,” I point out. “Daisy hated her. She told Georgia that.”
Beckett laughs. “Sorry, mate.”
“It’s fine. Daisy’s cute enough to get away with anything.”
“And we only met her because she was pissed that you ended things and she stormed into our lunch,” Caleb points out. “Happy to let Georgia know that.”
I wince at the thought of Caleb’s interference. “It’s okay, I’ve got this, thank you very much.”
“Well in that case, I don’t suppose she has any sisters does she?” Caleb asks.
I frown. “I don’t think so. And even if she did, I’d tell them to give you a wide berth.”
Caleb leans out of the kitchen door. “Georgia.” She looks up and he beckons at her. “Come here for a minute.”
“For fuck’s sake.” I love Caleb, I really do, but the man has a mouth the size of his ego.
“Everything okay?” she asks, walking into the kitchen.
“Everything’s fine,” I say. “Caleb’s just being a nosy bastard.”
“Theo doesn’t know if you have any sisters. So I thought I’d ask you.”
I groan internally. “Actually, I said I’d tell them to avoid you if she does.”
Georgia grins.. “No, no sisters. I’m an only child.”
“Well that’s a shame,” Caleb murmurs. “What do your parents do?”
“You don’t need to answer him. He’s just being a dick.”
“I’m doing some due diligence, that’s all.” He shrugs. “Feel free to ignore me.”
“It’s fine,” Georgia smiles at him. “My mom works for the school district. And I never knew my dad.” She tries to hide it, but there’s a pull to her voice that I can hear. “Very boring story. He had another family but didn’t tell my mom until she was pregnant. So she raised me alone. Worked hard for every penny.”
I reach for her hand. She lets me take it.
“And you’re actually single?” Caleb continues with his grilling. “Why? Don’t get me wrong, but you could do a lot better than Theo.”
“For fuck’s sake,” I mutter.
Georgia laughs. “Yes, completely single.”
