This isn’t good. I know there are certain abilities I got from Alaska. It will take me longer to die because of our bond, but because I’m human, I can still die from outside causes.
A piece of glass plunged into my side when the hunter busted through the window and dragged me out of the room. A sharp edge sticking out stabbed me before my feet hit the ground.
I’ll need Alaska to find me soon, or I’ll be dead.
Our child will be dead.
I squeeze my eyes shut, doing my best to remain calm.
I’m not. Nothing inside of me is calm. I’m scared out of my fucking mind. Even when I had to try and land the plane, I wasn’t this terrified.
Footsteps coming my way have me pressing my back against the damp cave wall. I sneer, wishing I had the energy to kill this hunter.
“Good. You’re awake.” He squats in front of me and cocks his head, staring at my injured side. “Mmm, that doesn’t look good. You only have a few hours at best. Either way, my job will be done. I’d prefer to kill the corpse walking around by hand.” He hums, pretending to be deep in thought and patting his finger against his lips. “But if you die, he will die, so it’s a win/win for me.”
“Fuck. You.” I spit in his face, literally.
He moves faster than I thought he could, pressing the tip of an arrow under my chin, the carved point digging into my flesh. “Not on your fucking life, corpse whore.”
I tilt my head back to get away from the weapon, my breaths shaking and uneven.
The hunter has long red hair and a thick beard with braids. His eyes are red and hold a dangerous glint, similar to a psychopath. While he might have similar attributes to Alaska, he is nothing like him.
“I never understood humans like you. Why would you fuck a vampire? Something cold and dead.”
I lean forward, the arrow cutting my skin, my side burning and screaming at me to stop moving. I refuse to look weaker than I already do.
“Because he fucks better than you or any human could.”
Before the next drip of water can fall from the ceiling to the ground, the arrow slices across my cheek. In a blur, the hunter grabs my face with his hand, clutching my cheeks so hard I think he might break my jaw.
“There’s only one way to find out.” His crimson eyes glow, burning brighter with excitement to act out his threat. “Not that I’d want to fuck you. Who knows what diseases you have now that you’ve fucked him, but I’d do it to prove a point.”
“He’s my mate.”
“I don’t care. There’s nothing you can say that will change my mind.”
“I’m pregnant,” I blurt, knowing how ridiculous it sounds, but I have to do something. I have to try everything.
A sick, twisted, almost demonic smile twists his lips. “Good. One less vampire in the world, the better.”
“You’re a monster.”
“That’s where you’re wrong. Your mate is the monster.”
“He’s the most gentle man I know. He’s far from a monster. It’s you who is consumed with violence. He hasn’t done anything to you!” I shout, groaning, when another gush of blood pours from my side.
“He exists. That’s enough.”
“Why?” I gasp for breath.
“Because my maker told me to.”
“You’re a hypocrite. Why don’t you kill your maker, then? You’re just a good little sucker being made a fool.”
He shoves the arrow through my shoulder, and I scream, hating that Alaska will feel every bit of agony I experience. His worry and panic pull on the strings connecting us.
“I’m okay. I’m okay. We’re okay. For now.”
