A Threat, Not A Promise

Moon ignores him, staring me down with his dark eyes. This is not going to end well.

I didn’t expect him to look so good. The last time I saw him he was still a lanky kid but in front of me now stands a man. I already saw it when he was doing the translating in Seoul for me and Tian. But back then I needed to keep my head in the game. I couldn’t afford to have those fuckers notice I was checking out my translator. I kept my distance when he was working for me and Tian. Maybe that’s why he got the chance to sneak away with Yuki. I’ve gotten close to putting a bullet between Yuki’s eyes for touching what’s mine.

I catch Tian’s eyes in the crowd, and he smiles at me. The fucker knows what I want. What I always wanted. The little psycho who likes to get punched in the face standing before me. The only thing holding me back is the age on his passport. But that’s all going to change tonight. I’m not letting him walk away from me ever again now that he’s finally turning legal.

Tian has been giving me so much shit the last few months. He only shuts up when I promised to give him my blood. Only because I know Dash is going to end him; I smirk, I can’t wait. Tian mouths fuck you, and I wink at him. He’s the only one besides the man standing in front of me and my blood, who can make me smile. I remember the last meeting me and Tian had in Tokyo where we set our plans in motion.

“Are you that obsessed with El?” he asks turning the chair toward me. Looking out over the Tokyo skyline all lit up, I know I should be happy we conquered the last territories. Everything as far as the eye could see is the Triad’s. I push my hands in my pockets knowing I should be celebrating, but I feel bored and lonely at the same time.

“I’ve seen the way you looked at him all these years. What did it cost you to hold back?” he taunts chuckling.

I turn and lean against the cold glass. “What do you mean?” My voice is as cold as the ice running through my veins.

“Don’t give me that shit.” He smiles, resting his feet on my desk. I eye his socks with tiny puppies on them and the fucker winks at me.

“I’m not obsessed.” I scowl.

He grins. “You devised this plan to make him yours the minute you saw him. You even bought him from his father when the kid hit puberty, you sick bastard.” He laughs; he’s liking my trainwreck of a life too much. “Do you know if the kid wants to be part of our so-called empire?”

My fingers itch to snatch the gun from my armpit holster to shoot him in the dick. “I don’t care about sitting at the head of the table, I only want one person.”

He sighs. “Are you sure you’re giving up your seat to me? For him? Is he really worth it?” I don’t tell him the real reason I’m giving up my seat. That’s a secret I’m taking to the grave. It’s the only reason I trust Jade in Tian’s care. He’s my true brother, the only one who will take care of her while I stand by and watch her grow, like I’ve done from afar all these years. She was never the mistake my father said she was. Even after I asked her aunt to take care of her, and him to adopt her, I raised her until I left for Tokyo. She doesn’t need to know the truth, neither does Tian, not yet anyway. But the truth always comes out.

I grab my gun and point it in his face; the bastard grimaces and winks at me, he’s fucking with me. “I’ll kill everyone including you to have him,” I promise him.

“Good answer,” he says, holding out his hand for me to shake; I secure my gun and take his hand. “Let’s burn it all to the ground,” he says all happy. I walk back to the windows and press my palm against the cold surface to stare out over the city.

He leans back in the chair and puts his hands behind his head getting comfortable in my fucking chair. “What are you going to do? Abduct him and lock and chain him up in your house so no one can touch him again?”

I raise an eyebrow, not answering his yapping.

He sits up straight. “You’re joking right? Tell me you are.” He holds up his hands. “You aren’t?”

I shrug, trying to hide my smile, but fail the instant I think of the psycho I want. The way his eyes laugh. The way his voice sounds, the way he smells. That time he bumped into me when he got out of the sauna is seared in my mind. It took everything I had not to grab him by the throat, push him back into the sauna, and bend him over one of the benches and sink inside while he struggled to break free. I groan and adjust myself; I hope he’ll struggle. The dull ache in my chest of not having him yet is overwhelming. Having to wait to mark him as mine when he already is. I don’t know how many times I draped the tie around my eyes and jerked off to the thought of him. I still wear it to the day.

Tian holds up his hand. “Can you please hide your hard-on when you think about him?” he teases and fake shivers.

I flip him off while he blows me a kiss. The crazy fucker, my blood is going to have her work cut out for her.

“Can you keep your eyes on the prize, our empire, and all the power, so we can do what the hell we want?” he remarks, sounding serious and I know he’s right.

“You know I’m only doing this to get him. When we reign, no one will try to make a move on him, because he’ll be mine. I don’t care about the power, the money, or our empire. I only want to own him.”

“I fucking know, Romeo, but in order to abduct him or whatever the fuck you want to do, we need to destroy everyone who defies us. That’s why I need your sister. She can sit beside me, with you by my side.”

“And him,” I add.

He rolls his eyes at me and pushes up from the chair, walking up to me. He places both hands on my shoulders; he knows I hate psychical touch, but for him I make an exception. He’s my friend and brother first. The one who’s going to lead both families. I’m too ruthless to unite us all. He’s the one who could do it, this is why I took a step aside. “Are you ready, brother, to take over the world?” he asks.

I nod, still not saying anything but thinking about the man I’m risking it all for.

“Promise.” He holds his pinky out, winking at me.

“I promise,” I vow, linking our fingers together.

I stare at Tian across the courtyard letting the memory fade away, and he frowns but I nod, letting him know everything’s okay. His shoulders relax instantly as he continues talking to my father.

“Sir, the meeting,” Yuki repeats, as Endo stands back.
