“I’m here,” Shelby said quietly. From right behind Hunter.
Apparently, the woman had opted not to stay in the bedroom. Something he’d suspected moments before when he heard the faint click of the bedroom door as it opened and then the soft rustle of her steps.
He eased aside for her and was excruciatingly glad to see that she wasn’t just wearing the robe. Nope. Thankfully. She’d put on a tank top—even a bra. Yoga pants. No shoes, though.
Her hair had mostly dried. The dark mane appeared tousled. Her lips were swollen. Red. Her eyes gleaming. And her cheeks? Flushed.
Oh, baby, you look like you were just well and truly fucked.
Because she had been.
A swift glance toward Jonah’s hardening face said he realized that important fact. At least they were all on the same page now. The page where Jonah would never, ever be fucking Shelby because Hunter was taking care of that job.
“What is it, Jonah?” Shelby asked in her husky voice. “What do you want?”
Ah, Hunter had asked the same question. He knew the answer. The jerk wants you, baby. But he just found out that I am seriously in the way of him ever accomplishing that life goal.
Too bad for the cop. It sucked to be him.
But Jonah notched up his chin and rallied. “We need to talk,” Jonah told her. Voice all flat and hard like he was the authority in that little space. He was not. “Now.” Jonah motioned toward the guy in the hotel uniform. “I got this. Go.”
The staff member practically ran away.
Jonah cut his gaze to Hunter. Anger glittered in his eyes. “Guess you take the job of guarding her body seriously, huh?”
“You have no idea.” He bared his teeth in a cold smile. “And I have to confess, it’s my favorite job in the whole world.”
Chapter Thirteen
“I wanted to update you on what we discovered.” Jonah prowled around the small den area of the suite, his movements tight, edgy. He flickered a glance toward Hunter. “Want to finish getting dressed before we talk?”
“Uh, no.” Hunter kept his arms at his sides. He seemed utterly relaxed. “I’m good just as I am. Thanks.”
Shelby caught the faint tightening of Jonah’s mouth. The tension in the room was palpable. She had no idea exactly what time it was. Just knew that it was late, and she also knew that Jonah had apparently been pounding on the hotel room door while she’d been coming beneath Hunter’s thrusting body.
I can still feel him inside me. He’d given her an orgasm—two orgasms—that had sent intense waves of blinding pleasure surging through her body. She’d been completely lost to the releases—to him. She’d been distantly aware of the pounding on the door, Shelby just hadn’t cared about it. Her focus had been on Hunter. On how he made her feel.
Sex with Andre hadn’t been like that. Not even close.
Sex had never been that good. She hadn’t realized a climax could feel that way. She’d had little pops of pleasure before, but nothing like those whole-body-shaking, breath-stealing orgasms that Hunter had given to her. And I’d love more, please.
But a cop was in their hotel suite. And suspicion poured from him.
“You mentioned that the vic had a laptop with her when you first saw Tiffany at the diner.” Jonah stopped prowling. His gaze zeroed in on Shelby.
Yes, she had mentioned that fact to him. When she’d been describing how she knew the vic back at the crime scene.
“We searched the scene,” Jonah added. “My team looked in her vehicle, but we didn’t recover a laptop.”
Her gaze immediately shot to Hunter.
A line cut between his brows. “You’re saying the killer took it?”
“No, I’m just saying—we didn’t recover one at the crime scene.”
“Then the killer took it,” Hunter fired back. He rolled his eyes. “What in the hell else do you think happened to it?”
Jonah’s jaw tightened. “I’m planning to search Tiffany’s dorm room. I’ll meet with college admin a little before nine in the morning and get access to the place.”
