Kira takes the seat and glances around the room, looking uncomfortable. “I think there’s been a mis—”
“If I had an assistant here to help, maybe there wouldn’t be so much confusion right now.” I grit out, glaring at Luka, who immediately picks up his phone to, I assume, text his house.
“Obviously, Miss Blakely is here to discuss this year’s Black Friday campaign.”
Seriously, would it kill them to read the fucking room? I guess that’s why I’m the people expert. These three morons can’t pick up on context clues to save their lives.
“Oh no, that’s not…”
“I thought FLAVA FLAVE was doing the Black Friday campaign…” Leo says. “When did you sign off on this? I thought that meeting was next month…”
Luka looks up from his phone. “L.O.K.I. said he handled everything. Your assistant started this morning…”
Kira looks around. “Right… So, like I was saying. I believe there’s been a bit of a misunderstanding…”
Luka’s eyes go wide, and his mouth drops open as he looks between Kira and me.
“Dude…Kira Blakely is your new assistant?” Guy blurts, his lips curling into a shit-eating grin.
The wheels in my brain begin to spin. What the hell is going on right now?
Kira just smiles devilishly. “I tried to tell you…but honestly, I was having too much fun watching you all try to figure it out.” She props her chin on her hand and leans in. “Is this how it is in every corporate office? Because I think you boys need your own reality TV show.”
I shake my head, trying to make sense of what I’m hearing. “I’m sorry. I’m confused. Are you saying that you applied for my assistant job posting?”
“Yep.” She nods as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
I blink in confusion. “Why?” Nothing about this makes any sense.
“I’m in town for the summer visiting my sister and wanted to try something new.” She shrugs, then narrows her eyes. “Is that a problem? Because your hiring manager, Loki, assured me I didn’t need any prior experience…”
“Not at all!” Guy and I blurt at the same time.
I shoot him a glare, silently telling him to back off, then turn my attention back to Kira, my tone softer now. “I’m happy to have you on my team. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to make you more comfortable.”
“Thank you.” She flashes me a siren smile that’d bring anyone to their knees, then bites her lip. “There is one thing.”
“What’s that?”
“Loki mentioned housing was included…”
“He did?” My stomach drops. My palms immediately begin to sweat.
She nods. “But if it’s too much trouble—”
“Not at all. It’s a perk offered to all of our assistants,” I lie, my mind already racing for a way to make it work.
“You told me all your rental properties were full—” Guy starts, but Luka claps a hand on his shoulder, signaling for him to shut the fuck up.
“They are… For you,” I tell Guy through gritted teeth.
“That’s some horse shit,” Guy protests, not even trying to be discreet. “It’s one weekend, and I asked first.”
I glare at him, jaw tight.
He holds up his hands. “Whatever. Message received. Don’t come to me next time you need a favor.”
Right…because everyone knows the baby of the family is the first stop when you need a favor. I think I’ll take my chances.
