“Enough,” Declan says, shaking his head. “We get it. You hate each other.”
I take a bite of food and admit to myself that it’s damn good. I wonder if Mildred can make something like this.
“Question,” I say to Declan, who lifts a brow. “When you lived in Vegas with your daughter.”
His face turns to granite.
“Where did she go to school?”
“Why the fuck do you want to know that?”
I take another bite of food.
“Because my son needs to go to school, and it won’t be at a regular public school where someone can pick him off.”
Declan relaxes. “I didn’t realize you had a boy.”
“I didn’t either until about a month ago. I found Rina.”
The room goes very still, and then Cillian tips his head to the side.
“Your dead wife?”
“Not dead,” I reply. “And no, I’m not fucking crazy. Now where do I send my kid to school?”
Declan’s lips tip up into a half smile. “I’ll send you the information. It’s a private, fully secure facility for children of high-profile, high-risk people. He’ll be safe there.”
“I appreciate it. Now, what job do you need me to do?” I ask Cillian as the others dig into their own meals.
“I need a man eliminated.”
I glance at Finn. “You have an assassin in the family.”
“I don’t want our name affiliated with it,” Cillian replies simply.
“If he does his job, no one will know who did it.”
“Do you want the assignment or not, St. James?” Cillian demands.
“Who?”
“Giovanni Romano.”
My fork lowers to my plate as I stare at the Irishman.
“You want me to take out the head of the motherfucking Camorra?”
“That’s right.”
I take another bite, thinking it over. It’s going to be a fucking shit show. Few people are guarded as well as Romano. His clan is one of the oldest in the world. His people are fucking devoted to him. There aren’t any holes in their organization.
“Two hundred and fifty million,” I say, and the other three men glower at me.
I hold Cillian’s glare with my own.
“You want me to infiltrate the fucking Camorra and take out the boss of a family that goes back centuries. I don’t even know where the fuck he is right now.”
“He’s in New Orleans.”
