My brows quirk as if to tell her to go ahead with it.

She nods. “Do you think I should change my name officially? If we want to make it believable, I think I sort of have to. I don’t have a Nevada license yet, anyway. I was waiting to figure out where I wanted my permanent residence to be, so I guess I’ll just say here and change my name all in one appointment.”

I nod as my chest warms. “There’s an assistant at the practice facility who can help you with the paperwork if you need it. They’ll schedule appointments and all that shit. Because you’re my wife, you get the benefits.”

She raises a brow. “There are an awful lot of benefits to being married to Cash Maddox.”

I chuckle. “I can get you front row tickets to games, too. If you’re interested in that sort of thing.”

“I’ve never been to a hockey game. Is the front row the best place to sit?”

“Not to watch the game. That would be along the red line maybe ten or fifteen rows up. But for me to see you in the crowd, yeah. Against the glass.” I think about seeing her sitting there with a 98 jersey on, and my cock feels suddenly ready to go again.

I think about her in a 98 jersey spread out on my kitchen counter wearing nothing else but maybe those black fuck me heels, and…

Fuck.

I may need a cold shower.

“Then definitely front row,” she says, shooting me a sly smile.

“Stop looking at me like that or you’re going to make me even later to workouts.”

She lifts a shoulder. “My bad. But honestly, I don’t have time for another round. I need to get to the office early, especially since I’m not working over lunch.” She stands and carries her plate to the sink, rinses it, and puts it in the dishwasher.

I’m right behind her when she turns around, and she bumps into me.

“Oh! Sorry,” she says.

I smirk down at her. “Don’t be.” I drop a kiss to her lips. “Have a great day, baby.”

She looks up at me in wonder. “Well, it’s certainly off to a great start.” She tips her chin up for another kiss, and I deliver.

And then I head into the workouts just a little later than I said I’d be with absolutely no regrets.

CHAPTER 31: Ivy Maddox

A Hockey Player

I’m driving toward the office when I see an incoming call from Liam.

“Hey,” I answer.

“A hockey player?” he demands, bypassing pleasantries.

I laugh. “I guess so.”

“What the hell happened?” He asks it lightly, in a teasing way, not in a rude way.

“It’s all a blur,” I admit.

“I’m sorry I didn’t call sooner. Things have been wild here, and now training camp is underway.”

“How’s it going?” I ask.

“Great. Amazing, actually. It feels like I’m going to get my chance. Finally.”

“I’m so happy for you.” I just want him to say it back. I want him to believe this is real…even though it isn’t. Or wasn’t, since it is now.
