Beckett groans softly as his mouth molds with mine, and I can’t remember a time I have ever felt this wanted. That anyone has ever made me feel desired from a kiss alone.
Beckett elicits that feeling just from a look, and now this…
I melt into him, and he tightens his hold, ready to catch me if I fall.
And if he keeps this up, I have no doubt I’ll be falling. Just not in the physical sense.
A knot twists in my stomach but I ignore it, focusing on the way his soft lips caress mine and the little spark that ignites in my chest. I don’t want to think right now. I just want to enjoy him.
With the lightest touch, Beckett brushes his tongue across my lips, and I open my mouth with a moan, granting him entry. Our tongues clash as his free hand curls around my neck, his hold possessive as he lifts my chin to deepen the kiss.
With his palm flush against my back, he pulls me against him, eliminating the space between us, squishing my breasts against the ridges of his hard chest.
My nipples pebble as I visualize what’s beneath his tee, and my body heats from longing. I want to run my fingers over the outline of his muscles. I want to follow the path that leads to the waistband of his jeans.
I want to touch him.
I want to be touched.
While my mind whirs, Beckett spreads my legs with his knee, and I roll my hips against him, the involuntary movement snapping me out of my lust-filled fog, bringing me back to the present.
“We should probably move away from the windows,” I rush out, my voice wavering as I lack the breath to get the words out. With a smile, I tilt my head toward the outside world, using it as an excuse to regain some composure until Beckett stills. His face pales as his head snaps to the window, his eyes wide.
And I panic. He’s a freaking athlete. Of course he’d be worried about being seen.
“Oh God, I’m sorry. I’m joking. No one can see in unless they’re standing with their nose pressed against the glass. But still…” I trail off as Beckett’s shoulders drop and a relieved sigh leaves his mouth.
He stares at me for a beat before his gaze turns wild and something new crosses his face. He shakes his head and swiftly grabs my hand, rushing through the store until we reach the aisles.
I expect him to keep walking toward the open office door, but he surprises me the second we’re out of sight, spinning me until my back hits the bookshelf, his lips instantly descending on mine, sealing our mouths in another passionate kiss.
And thank God, because I want more.
With a satisfied moan, I lift my arms to wrap around his shoulders, and my elbow connects with the shelf, sending a book falling to the floor with a thud.
We jolt apart, both glancing down at the half-naked man on the cover before bursting out laughing.
“I guess we’re in the right place?”
“Technically, this is Henley’s section of the store. I’m more of a thriller or nonfiction reader.”
Beckett’s expression twists and I wince at the mention of Henley. Why? Why would I say that? “Did I just ruin the moment?”
“No.” He chuckles softly. “I’m well aware you share the bookstore with my sister. But I’d love it if we didn’t mention her again.”
“Deal. Where were we?”
“I was considering the consequences of getting you naked.”
“What?” I choke on thin air as the blood once coursing through my body rushes to my core, making me dizzy. “You were?” We’re on the same page.
“Where did you think this was leading?”
“Honestly?”
Beckett nods.
“I don’t know. It’s been a while,” I admit, still a little breathless. “Almost six years if I’m counting. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to presume and I definitely—”
