“Thank you! The man of the hour is getting interviewed right now!” He points his arm across the field to where Sebastian stands with a bundled-up female reporter, a microphone directed at him.
“Okay!” I yell, but I found the man I was looking for.
It’s not until a few minutes later that it officially sinks in that Boston is going to the Super Bowl and I need to make the decision whether to join or bail.
Chapter Forty-Seven
Calvin
“You’ve still got a piece of confetti there,” I tell Sebastian, while flicking a piece out of the back of his blond hair, just below his hat line.
“Thanks, man. That was crazy earlier.”
It still is.
We continue to celebrate, but we just moved the party from the field to the locker room. Speeches have already been made, reporters have already been answered, and many of us have already changed back into streetwear.
There’s only one person I really want to celebrate with, though, and she’s not here.
We only saw each other for a quick minute earlier. I want to slip out early and spend the rest of the night with her.
I’ve been waiting my whole career to play in a Super Bowl, dreaming of post locker room celebrations, and now I’m counting down the minutes until it’s cool to leave.
Sebastian tucks his phone into his pocket, and then slaps my back. “I’m going to take off. Do you want a ride, or are you going to stay a bit?”
“I’m ready to go,” I say, throwing my duffel bag over my shoulder. Don’t have to ask me twice.
Feet opens another bottle of champagne, cork flying in the air, almost hitting us on our way out. Some of the guys are going to be here awhile, and I have a feeling they won’t miss us one bit.
We make our way out of the locker room, saying goodbye to some of our teammates as we go.
It takes us a little longer than usual to move to Sebastian’s truck, but when my ass touches the leather of his seats, I let out a deep breath.
My phone vibrates in my pocket, which is not new. It’s been going off every few minutes, at least. Everyone and their mother is congratulating me on the win tonight.
I glance down at the screen and chuckle. I raise my phone and wave it in front of Sebastian.
“It’s your mom congratulating me on the win tonight.” I waggle my eyebrows.
He just shrugs it off. His mom texts me often, so he’s used to it by now. She also congratulated me in person earlier, but in her text, she couldn’t remember if she did or not. She did. Plus, she gave me a great big mom hug.
I flip through my texts until I find Lettie’s name. She messaged me ten minutes ago with a simple text:
Lettie: Congratulations! *red heart emoji*
I eye Sebastian in the driver’s seat, eyes straight again on the road. I focus on the screen and shoot her back a text.
Me: Thank you *red heart emoji*
Me: I’m heading home now
I hold my breath and type two more words.
Me: Come over?
Her reply is instant.
Lettie: Sure
