Olivia flew in last night for Sebastian’s first round of playoffs since it’s a long weekend, and this gives her a little extra time since she doesn’t have class until Monday. I don’t need to ask her to know she won’t be coming for the next round next weekend, but she’ll attend the Super Bowl to cheer Sebastian on if it comes to that.

“Just because you are annoying doesn’t mean you couldn’t have stayed at my place this weekend,” I complain.

I don’t know why, but it irks me that my sister is staying at a hotel. Both her siblings have places in the city, but she’s paying for a room somewhere else?

“I figured you’d want the space,” she says, repeating what she said earlier, with a slight adjustment.

I shrug in response, because I don’t see my sister too often and it’s a quick trip.

“Plus, we may see each other in a few weeks,” she says, crossing her fingers up in the air.

It’s a weird thing to say because there’s no guarantee they’ll make it to the Super Bowl, plus she knows that I’ve never attended a Super Bowl, nor do I fly to the West Coast. Also, she could have possibly jinxed the team by getting ahead of herself, but oh well.

See, now we’re back to the terrible person thing. That’s me.

The stadium roars in applause and excitement as the game clock ticks down to the final seconds.

The Boston Revolutionaries won their first-round playoff game and are moving on to the next round in a week’s time.

Olivia shrieks beside me and claps. “Yay! I’m so excited!” She jumps up and down. “Can we see Sebastian now?”

I nod once. My stomach is in knots thinking about the family room that all the players visit after the game, including my bro and his best friend.

* * *

“Who are you looking for?” my sister taunts with an arched eyebrow.

“My brother,” I deadpan.

“Nah uh. I see those heart eyes,” she teases.

“I didn’t realize I turned into an emoji.”

She just beams at me, and then elbows me when I don’t contribute further.

The family room is more crowded than usual with a lot of partners, children, parents, siblings, and more. The players are also slower to arrive, so that could be part of it.

My eyes are trained on the door when broad shoulders stride through. His eyes light up when they connect with mine.

“Ah,” Olivia says with an all-knowing grin. “The brother’s best friend trope. My favorite.”

“Shut it,” I retort. “We are just friends.” My voice is stern. Hopefully.

“Okkayy,” she says, drawing it out, not even pretending she doesn’t believe me.

“Fine. But we are friends. Calvin can be friends with multiple people besides my brother.”

Calvin strolls towards me, but is stopped by someone I faintly recognize, but the conversation is brief, as he darts over to my direction.

Our eyes collide, and smiles take over our faces.

“Hi!” Olivia’s voice booms. “Nice to see you too, Calvin!” She waves her hand in front of our faces.

We both turn to face Olivia, who has an amused smirk on her face. Shit. How long were we staring at each other?

Calvin clears his throat. “Nice to see you again.”

Olivia grins ear to ear. Now I’m glad she is staying at a hotel tonight. I wouldn’t hear the end of this otherwise.
