I let out a sigh of relief. I know she’s a grown woman, but seeing her walk out the door by herself killed me this morning. I just wanted to scoop her up, drop her back into my warm bed, and spend all day with her.
Unfortunately, we both had things to do.
I also know Lettie pretty well, at least I think I do. My girl needs time to process. She was brave last night, letting me in, and I want to give her some space just in case she needs it. The last thing I want to do is drive her away.
Me: Good
Me: Anything eventful happen?
Her reply comes in quickly.
Lettie: Are you a mind reader??
My response is also instant.
Me: What does that mean?
Me: Everything okay?
The three dots dance on the screen and then disappear. I decide to respond with three dots of my own.
Me: …
I walk into the kitchen and pour myself a glass of orange juice while I wait for a response. I take a sip when my phone alerts me to her reply, and I glance down at her message.
Lettie: I ran into my brother and Annie in the lobby
I spit my drink out.
Shit. Bad timing.
I grab a paper towel and clean up my mess, and then reach for my phone again.
Me: Really? What happened?
My stomach drops. Sebastian is my closest friend on the team, and my best friend.
What was I thinking, getting involved with his sister?
Well, I wasn’t.
Sebastian was the furthest person from my mind the last few days, especially last night.
He’s going to kill me. Sebastian is a protective guy. There’s no way that he’d be okay with this, especially since he’s extra protective of his actual family.
My mind is stirring, but my phone pings with another text, breaking up my thoughts.
Lettie: Nothing much
Lettie: He invited me to dinner at his place soon to catch up
I want to ask if he suspects anything, but I keep my mouth shut for now, for whatever reason. I don’t want anything to burst my bubble today. After all, I kissed my dream girl, and I’m already fantasizing about doing it again.
Chapter Thirty
Calvin
I’m placing my pads back into my locker after a hard practice when Sebastian saunters over.
