“I do,” I groan. “But first I want—”
Her lips move to my collarbone, and the trail is fire to my skin. When she licks my skin, I put my hands on her hips and move her aside so I can think clearly.
“Listen,” I say, breathing raggedly. “Before anything happens between us, I need to tell you something that could be a problem.”
She frowns. “You don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Of course I don’t!”
“Then there’s no problem. And you want me.” She smirks. “Clearly.”
I can’t hide that evidence. “Tempest.”
“Wait. Before you say anything, come with me to the back room to see an old pool table Aunt Kyra is getting rid of. I was thinking you might want to have it for your place.”
“Okay, but—” I nearly bump into her when she stops suddenly.
“Ta-da!” She flings out her arms. Behind her is a pool table that has a small patch of damaged felt.
She raises her voice to be heard over a couple of box fans running on one side of the room. “I’m thinking that could easily be repaired but when I told Aunt Kyra, she said no because she already ordered new tables and wants them all to be the same brand.”
Turning, she closes the door, locks it, then leaps up onto the table and sits with her legs swinging. “Come here so I can tell you something,” she says.
I step closer and she parts her legs. “Closer.”
She pats the insides of her legs and I step between them.
Tempest wraps her legs around me, using them to pull me toward her. Then she digs a finger into the pocket of her shorts, pulls out a condom and waves it around. “Right here on this table, cowboy.”
“I need—”
She grinds herself against me. “I know what you need. I can feel you.”
Beads of sweat pop out on my forehead. I clench my teeth. I’m holding myself together with every bit of strength I have. “I need to talk to you,” I force out.
“Later.” She sets the condom beside her and starts unbuckling my belt.
I capture both of her hands in one of mine and pin them to her lap. Looking directly into her eyes, I say, “It’s about the pen pal.”
“What about him?” She tightens her legs against me, catching me off guard, and I nearly lose my balance.
I let go of her hands to brace myself and she clutches the front of my T-shirt. “Am I being too wild for you? Is that it?”
“No…”
“You don’t want me? Is that it?”
“Hell, no! That’s not it.” I want to tell her the truth. All of it. That I’m Midnight Cowboy. That I’m Maverick. That I’m in love with her.
I open my mouth and she covers it with her hand. “I don’t want to hear it.”
I lower her hand. “But you’ll hate me. And I know—”
She stops me again. “You don’t know anything. Now do you want me or not?”
I swallow hard. “I do.”
“Then please, don’t talk…just kiss me.”
