Nah. That doesn’t mean anything. Plenty of people like sunflowers. I dismiss it as a coincidence, but it nags at me.
I’ll just put my mind at ease real quick.
Taking my phone back out, I add another message.
To: Sunflower
Subject: Family
I know we’re not supposed to reveal anything about our identity, so I don’t think this crosses that line. Do you have any brothers?
~Midnight Cowboy
I know Tempest doesn’t have any brothers so if Sunflower says yes, then I’ll know it’s not her.
My phone dings.
To: Midnight Cowboy
Subject: Family
No, I don’t have any brothers. I have three sisters. Why do you ask?
~Sunflower
I read the message, then read it again. Tempest has three sisters. My mind refuses to accept that the person I’ve been matched with in Write a Cowboy could be her.
I type back:
To: Sunflower
Subject: Asking again
Do you have a large family in Lucky River besides your sisters? What about your parents?
~Midnight Cowboy
There, that should do it.
To: Midnight Cowboy
Subject: My family
Not really. My parents are divorced.
~Sunflower
My brain refuses to believe that out of all the potential matches, we’d get assigned to be each other’s pen pal.
To: Sunflower
Subject: A gift when we meet
At the reveal party, I’d like to bring a gift to you. Something small. Maybe something with flowers. What’s your favorite flower?
~Midnight Cowboy
I walk the floor. Go into the kitchen and get a drink of water. Check my phone. Sit. Get back up. Check my phone again and I’m looking at the screen when I get another message.
