“I am eventually,” she says.
I look over at her again, her expression tells me she’s totally serious, that she’s not taking no for an answer.
Well, my gram is about to learn she’s not the only stubborn woman in this family. Because I am not going out with Colby Knight.

Monday morning, I finish up my first lecture and check my phone once all of my students have filed out of the room. I have one missed call from Gram, another missed call from the Eagle’s publicist to schedule my evening with an Eagle. I huff indignantly, causing a few curls to blow away from my face. I cannot believe Gram gave them my phone number…Okay, I can believe it. The woman has no boundaries, and she’s apparently desperate for great grandchildren.
On top of the missed calls, I notice I also have five unread texts. Two from my group chat with Mel and Andie, and three from a number I don’t recognize.
I open Mel’s and Andie’s first, thinking the others are either spam, or coupon codes from something I signed up for online.
Mel
Please, for the love of all that is holy, answer Colby’s texts.
Andie
Yes, Noel, we are BEGGING YOU. *GIF of Puss n’ boots’ pouting face*
“Colby’s texts? He doesn’t even have my number…” I mumble to myself. My eyes widen when I realize that he must’ve gotten my number from the publicist. I know Mel and Andie wouldn’t give him my number. Solidarity and all that. Hoes before bros.
Exiting out of the group chat, I pull up the text thread from the unknown number.
Unknown
Hey, angel.
I groan out loud.
Unknown
You know any other woman would be dying to go out to dinner with me, right?
Unknown
It’s just dinner. I know you love to eat. And it’s free.
Noel
Actually, it cost $18,000.
Colby
The 18 grand was a charitable donation, you know, for the CHILDREN.
Colby
An evening with yours truly is an added bonus. I’ll even stay the night with you, free of charge, because I’m feeling generous. *GIF of Jimmy Fallon winking*
Noel
I’m not going on a date with you.
Colby
It’s not a date… it’s an evening with an Eagle.
