I groan. “I should have texted him. I was so preoccupied with thinking about what I wanted to say to him, I didn’t even consider it.”
“I’m sorry, I almost said something about you wanting to talk, but I didn’t want to overstep.” She steps out onto the porch and closes the door behind her. “They always camp out on James’s property. Do you know where it is?”
I shake my head. “I don’t. Does he live out in the country?”
Emily crosses her arms and leans against the side of the house. “Yeah, he has a plot of land about forty-five minutes outside of Wichita. That’s where they camp, but the cell service out there is terrible.”
With a sigh, I ask, “Do you happen to have the address? I could type it into Google Maps.”
“I don’t think Google Maps is going to work out there.”
I slump back against the banister on the front porch. “Well, my parents have Samantha for the day. Surely it couldn’t be that hard to find. I have to at least try.”
Taking a deep breath, I continue, “I don’t think I can wait another day to talk to him.”
She nods. “I get that. I’ll text you his address, but be careful. There’s a twenty percent chance of storms today. The guys ignored my warning, but you know how unpredictable Kansas weather can be.”
She pulls her phone out of the front pocket of her hoodie and types out a message.
My phone pings with James’s address. “Thank you so much, Emily! I’ll screenshot the directions now in case I don’t get any service out there.”
“That’s a solid plan. Good luck, Sophie.” She smiles.
“Thanks.” I pull her into a big hug before she can stop me.
