As each brutal second passes, His face comes closer to mine. Our noses are almost touching now, and I know he’s letting me decide if I want to come the rest of the way. If I’m ready to close the distance between our lips and bring us to a new sensation we’ve never felt between us before.
Oh Drew, if only you knew how ready I was for this.
My feet lift me the rest of the way, making our lips brush ever so softly. Only a whisper of a touch. He stills, his eyes are closed like he’s relishing in the way our lips are barely touching. I pull back just enough to see his eyes. His lids slowly open and meet my gaze. He has the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen, sometimes brown, sometimes green. But always with flecks of gold woven throughout. His expression looks amused, like he’s waiting to see what I’ll do next.
“Kiss me, Drew,” I whisper, unable to wait another second.
His eyes go dark and he closes the distance, making our lips more than just brush this time. He kisses me with firm strokes, like his life depends on this kiss. My lips are water and he’s a man who’s been stranded in the desert for way too long. Our lips dance and sway like they’re moving in time to the slow music, but our feet are stopped.
His mouth tastes sweet like cotton candy as it presses into mine over and over again. His kisses are achingly sweet.
Drew stops abruptly, and that’s when I realize the music has stopped. I open my eyes and glance around. The teenage couples on the dance floor are watching us with stars in their eyes, but the adults are scowling. I can only assume those are the parents. And they’re probably wondering who invited this entirely inappropriate couple to the high-school’s fundraiser.
Drew takes in my embarrassed expression and bursts into one of his loud, sincere laughs. The sound fills me with warmth all over again, but I start laughing as well. He takes my hand and pulls me off the dance floor and we laugh on our way back to the Bronco.
Drew opens my door, still grinning. “Whew, that was a close one. I thought those parents were going to call the bouncer to kick us out.”
I slide into the Bronco, my face heating at the reminder of our very public kiss. “Yeah, pretty sure all those kids are getting an abstinence talk tonight.” I grimace.
He bursts out laughing. “I never know what you’re going to say.” He shakes his head. “That’s one of my favorite things about you.”
With one hand braced on the door of the Bronco and the other on the roof, he leans in to give me one more swift but achingly soft kiss. I’m still closing my eyes and savoring it when he pulls back and closes my door for me.
