He releases a deep breath, then his face lights up. Knowing I'm the reason for that smile on his face makes my heart nearly beat out of my chest.
“I was hoping I could take you to dinner on Friday?” He ducks his head down then looks back up at me through his thick lashes. “I hope this wasn’t too presumptuous, but I asked Emily to babysit for us.”
I chuckle. “So you were pretty sure I’d want to go to dinner then, huh?”
“I was cautiously optimistic.” He winks.
“That actually works out. Otherwise, I'd have to ask my parents, and they’d inevitably want to know what plans I had.” I bite my bottom lip. “Not that I’m ashamed to go to dinner with you… it’s just that I’m unsure how they’ll respond.”
He nods. “Yeah, I had the same thought. David is going to kick my butt when he finds out.”
I recall David’s words the other day when he found us on the couch upstairs, asleep. “I’m not so sure about that, actually.”
Drew raises one eyebrow in question. “So, Friday night then? We can leave after I get home from work and shower, around 6:30?”
“Perfect.”
We grin at each other as we stand from the sofa. I follow him as he heads to the stairwell door, and we bid each other goodnight.
Even after closing the door and telling Drew goodnight, my heart is still racing. I’m half nervous and half excited. Nervous that my relationship with Drew is about to drastically change, but excited at the possibility of a future with him.
