We glance over to see Drew standing in the doorway, wearing his scrubs and a deep scowl. His fists are clenched at his sides, like he’s holding himself back from beating the crap out of Peter’s father.
“I’m sorry, we have no need for a phlebotomist at the moment, and this conversation is none of your business.” Bradley smirks as he gestures toward Drew’s scrubs.
Drew takes two long strides into the classroom so he’s standing right in front of Bradley. Peter’s father is tall, but Drew stands several inches over him. Not to mention the extra twenty pounds of muscle he has.
Bradley appears to waver under Drew’s glare. He takes a few steps toward the door before glancing back at me.
“Ms. Miller, the headmaster will hear from me this evening, so don’t bother speaking with her on my behalf.” He grins salaciously before turning on his heel and exiting the room.
I let out a breath that I’ve apparently been holding in and bring my hand to my chest. Drew wraps his arms around me in a comforting hug.
“Are you okay?” he whispers against the top of my head.
I sigh as I hug him back. “Yes, thank you.”
The feel of his body against mine is warm and comforting. Once his arms were around me, I instantly felt calm. There’s something about Drew that soothes me and makes me feel safe. I’m immensely enjoying this hug. But way too soon, he pulls away.
Drew studies my face for a second. “That guy is a dick.”
I laugh. “I’d agree with you, but it’s frowned upon for me to call my student’s parents dicks. What are you doing here, anyway?”
“My last two patients for the day cancelled, and I wanted to pick Penny up from school. I tried texting you, but you didn’t respond, so I decided to stop by your classroom and let you know Penny wouldn’t need a ride today.” He smiles.
“That’s too bad your phlebotomy patients had to cancel.” I bite the insides of my cheeks to keep from laughing.
Drew smirks. “Very funny.”
“But seriously, thanks for saving me. That guy gives me the heebie jeebies.” I shiver.
“Glad to be of service.” He does a little bow. “Well, I’m going to go get Penny.”
And with a smile, he leaves the classroom, and I stand there looking at the doorway with a big, stupid grin on my face.
