“Okay, that's fine.”
He ordered the cake to go and asked for the check. When the waitress brought it back, he paid without even looking at the total.
“You don't ever look at your receipts?” I asked.
“For what?”
“To see how much you spending.”
“Ma, I know how much I'm spending.”
“Okay, Mr. Moneybags.”
He laughed. “You done?”
“For now.”
Once the waitress returned with our dessert, we gathered our things and headed toward the elevator. Cassian placed his hand against my lower back as we walked, and for once, I didn't move away from him. It wasn't like he'd never touched me before, but tonight felt different. Maybe it was because we'd actually spent time talking and getting to know each other without all the extra bullshit going on.
When we reached the parking area, he opened my door and helped me inside before walking around to his side. On the ride home, we talked a little more, mostly about the food and how I still thought that damn restaurant was too expensive.
By the time we pulled into the driveway, I was ready to get out of these boots. They were cute as hell, but my feet had had enough.
Cassian came around and opened my door.
“You good?” he asked as I stepped down.
“Yeah, but these damn boots gotta come off.”
He laughed. “I was wondering how long you was gone last in them.”
“Don't start with me.”
“I ain't say nothing, ma.”
We headed inside, and I went straight toward the living room, setting my purse on the couch before sitting down to take my boots off. Cassian disappeared into the kitchen with our dessert, and by the time he came back, I had already kicked both boots to the side.
“Damn, you ain't waste no time.”
“Hell nah. My feet was hurting.”
He laughed as he set the dessert on the coffee table. “You want some now?”
“Not yet. I'm still full.”
“Aight.”
He took off his coat and laid it across the back of a chair before sitting beside me. I reached for the remote and started looking for something to watch, but I couldn't find anything that caught my attention.
“You wanna watch something?” I asked.
“Whatever you wanna put on.”
I glanced over at him. “You always this agreeable?”
“Nah.”
“Clearly.”
