“Cassian!” I laughed. “How the hell you get all that from me asking what you mixed with?”
“Shit, I'm just asking.”
“Well, stop asking me about having your babies. Ain't nobody thinking about all that.”
“Not yet, huh?”
I sucked my teeth. “You know what? I'm not even about to entertain you.”
He laughed and went back to eating, looking entirely too pleased with himself.
I stayed at the island while he finished his food, and we talked about a few other things. Every now and then, he'd offer me a bite off his plate, even though I'd already eaten. I turned him down each time, but that didn't stop him from trying.
For somebody who could be so damn aggravating, Cassian was surprisingly easy to sit around and talk to when he wasn't trying to get under my skin. And as much as I hated to admit it, I was beginning to look forward to moments like this with him.
Once Cassian finished eating, he got up and put his plate in the sink before wiping down the counter.
“You heading upstairs?” he asked.
“Yeah, I'm getting tired.”
“Aight, ma.”
I slid off the stool and started toward the stairs with him following behind me. When we reached the second floor, I stopped outside my bedroom.
“You going to bed?” I asked.
“Probably not right now. Why?”
I shrugged. “Just asking.”
He looked at me for a moment before stepping closer. “What's on your mind, shorty?”
“Nothing.” I reached for my bedroom door, then stopped. “You can come in for a little while if you want.”
“Aight.”
He followed me inside, closing the door behind him. I set my phone on the nightstand and sat on the edge of my bed while he stood nearby.
“You been quiet since we came upstairs,” he said.
“I ain't got nothing to say.”
“Okay.”
I looked up at him. He wasn't pushing me to talk or making another joke about what happened between us the other night. For once, he was letting me be the one to decide what I wanted.
“Come here, Cassian.”
He stepped between my knees, and I reached up, resting my hands against his chest.
“What you want, ma?” he asked quietly.
Instead of answering, I pulled him down and kissed him. He kissed me back, one hand settling against my waist.
When I finally pulled away, he stayed close.
“You sure?” he asked.
