The nigga in the Braves cap talked shit as I approached them in the middle of the dark street. The only light out here came from the light pole a few yards away and the lights beaming from my truck shining on their Charger.

“Do you niggas have guns or something to help y’all this time?”You think shit is going to be different out here in open space?”

“Yeah, because we know what to expect nigga.”

“I really don’t think you do.” I chunked my chin up at them, walking closer.

The nigga in the Braves cap swung on me, and I dodged it, because to reflexes like mine, he was moving in slow motion. He swung at me a couple more times util I threw a counter punch so hard I connected with his jaw and sent him crashing down to the pavement headfirst. While on the ground, I punched his ass three more times to the jaw, slamming his head between my fist and the concrete. Blood started leaking from his temple on the same side I cracked with the bottle.

Once he was knocked out cold, his two homies got buff, swinging on me both at once, connecting a few times, but I knew I had to get these niggas off me. In times like this, I always thought about Mirical and making it back to her.

I started throwing haymakers at both of them niggas, making them stumble damn near into each other before they both hit the ground.

“Welcome to H-Town bitch ass niggas.”

I stood up straight and adjusted my shirt up on my shoulders. Both of them struggled to get up and I turned around and walked back to my truck unfazed even with my back turned.

I was about to open my truck door when I heard,

“Yo, Jai, come on. Get up, let's go!”

“Yo, he not breathing, Chris!”

I looked back and saw them rocking Brave’s cap back and forth as he laid on the ground. They weren’t getting a response from the nigga, as he laid stiff as a board on the concrete.

“Duke, come on. Let’s get away from here, please.” Toya pleaded, but my eyes never lost focus on them niggas in front of me.

The longer I looked, the more it became evident that he wasn’t just knocked out temporarily. He looked knocked out for good.

“Jai! Man, come on! Wake up nigga!” They begged their homie, but I knew the begging was for nothing. I’d seen death enough to have no hope for him. I just killed him, meaning there was only one thing left for me to do to them.

I stepped back down from the truck and walked back towards them, knowing that I had to protect my freedom just as I had to protect myself.

I lifted my shirt, pulled out the .38 on me, and approached them from behind while they were still trying to help their already dead homie. They didn’t see me coming, so I shot one of them niggas in the head in one swift motion, dropping him to the concrete next to his homie Jai.

Before the last one could react, I turned and shot the other dude next to him. This time twice.

Pop! Pop!

By this time, I could hear Toya screaming from inside the truck.

Just like that, I had forgotten she was there, but the fear in her voice I hated to hear. I never wanted her to witness some shit like this, but what the hell else was I supposed to do? Kill one, kill them all.

I put the gun back in my pocket and then picked up all of the shell casings from the ground before jogging back to the truck. I hopped in, and Toya was crouched over towards the door, shaking like I had the gun pointed at her.

“Listen, you alright. I’m not going to do shit to you.”

“Wh, wh, why did you do that to them? Please don’t hurt me.”

Her eyes were so big and glossy they looked like they were about to bust.

“I’m not going to hurt you. Relax.”

I shifted the truck gear into drive and did a U-turn in the street.

“Remember Toya, them niggas attacked me first, alright.”

“Yeah, they did, but couldn’t you have just left them?” Her breathing was so picked up, it was hard for her to speak.
