“Oh, okay. Thanks for these, I guess.”

“Yeah, so anyway, when is your period supposed to be here again?’

“According to My Chart, I should start in like three weeks from today.”

“Okay. Well, in three weeks these will come in handy. The quicker you find out if you are pregnant, the quicker we can get you under a doctor and do that Gender blood test in ten weeks. You know how the rest goes, so I don’t have to say all of that again.” Kharti waved her hand as she stood up from her seat. She threw her Tote bag over her forearm and walked to the door.

“Wait, are you leaving already? I need to tell you what Michael just said about Damon’s ass.”

“Tell me later, I have to go check up on some things at the house.”

“Oh, okay.”

“See you later, friend.”

Kharti walked out of the door before I could respond.

I couldn't help but notice how short our conversation was just now. Usually, me and her talk about everything before separating, but I shrugged it off because maybe she was really busy. I got up from the couch and started kicking the basket of clothes towards my bedroom, and I was only halfway down the hallway when I heard knocking on the door.

I figured it was Kharti coming back because she couldn’t resist not hearing the tea. I pushed the basket to the side and shouted, “Coming.”

When I opened the door open, I was met by a broad chest that filled my view with a diamond-studded chain hanging low against it. My eyes slowly traveled upward until I saw exactly who it was at my doorstep.

“Oh, hi, Caine. Kharti just left.” He nodded his head and then walked past me and into my living room.

“I know she did. How do you think I found you?” He replied, stopping in the living room and looking around as if he was scoping the place out.

“Damn, so this is where you live?”

He asked, and I instantly noticed all the shit out of place in here starting with the blanket I was cuddled under scattered across the couch.

“Yeah, but warning. I haven’t picked up this morning. I’ve been back and forth to the laundry center washing clothes.”

He squinted his eyes and lifted one of his dark eyebrows like I was speaking in another language.

“Laundry center? Where is that?”

“In the back of building six. It’s not too far from here.”

I downplayed my trip.

Caine ran his hand over the back of his head, brushing over that good ass hair before he took a seat on the couch as if he were invited in. I wasn’t mad at it though. This was Kharti’s man, true enough, but damn, he smelled good. He had the whole room smelling rich just that quickly.

“Come over here, Toya.”

I walked over and sat down on the couch opposite him, nervous as hell yet again. I was nervous not only because of who he was, but because I think some of those nerves were actually butterflies. Caine being exactly what me and Kharti always praised growing up was hard not to lust over, especially knowing that he had a big ass dick. I hated that I even knew that shit now, and it made me feel terrible that I liked it.

“Now, do you remember that I said that you would have to live by my rules if this surrogacy situation works out?”

“Yes.” I nodded my head.

“Well, a part of that is, I can’t let you live here like this. These apartments run down on the outside, and while the inside of here isn’t that bad, I wouldn’t trust my seed growing here. The fuckin front gate is even knocked down. This place isn't safe at all.”

I started to tell him why the gate was knocked down, but that was besides the point right now.

“I know the apartments look bad, but they are not all that bad, trust me. Plus, I have a lot of people here that look out for me and my safety.”

He chunked his chin back as he looked almost down on me, even sitting down.
