I had to get out of here. As far away from him as possible.
This Ruisangor was manipulating my feelings. That had to be it.
“We both know that's not the truth,” he murmured darkly.
He was right. It was a lie. There was so much inside me that wanted to come out of my mouth at that very moment. My whole body seemed to be rebelling against my mind. That couldn't possibly be me.
“What are you talking about?”
I turned away from Miles, ready to leave.
“Emely...”
Somehow, my body gained the upper hand, and I turned back to him.
Miles' jaw visibly tensed, and he seemed to be searching for words.
I was afraid of what he might say, so I forced myself to end this conversation with my own words.
“When you leave, don't forget to say hello to Olivia. You two are a really adorable couple. I hope you have fun skipping lectures.”
I wanted to hit myself.
What was wrong with me?
“What?” he blurted out, and a few seconds later, he started laughing. “Olivia is an old friend.”
Even though it shouldn’t, I felt a wave of relief wash over me.
With every additional feeling in my chest, the confusion and panic increased. It told me to run away. Away from Miles.
“That's good for you, Miles. Unfortunately, I couldn't care less,” I lied bitterly.
Miles' expression changed instantly, as if I had pressed a button.
He seemed to remember that we were enemies, because his next words sounded like the real Miles. The one I knew.
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah!” I blurted out with more anger in my voice than I intended. “I’m telling you this for the last time.” I looked him straight in the eye. “Leave. Me. Alone!”
Miles slammed his fist against the cabinet next to him, and I flinched.
“Fine!”
He snorted and ran his fingers through his hair in visible annoyance.
That damn hair.
“Then I'll leave you alone!”
“Good!” I hissed, finally managing to turn away.
I walked to the door with my head held high, suppressing the urge to run away, just as desperately as the urge to simply turn around and look at him one more time.
It would have taken just one more damn glance, and my reason would have abandoned me.
His too. I could feel it in the way he was staring at my back, sliding further and further down until I finally slammed the door shut behind me and swallowed.
