I knew it. Crazy rich spies.
Now Harlow's expression flushed with bewilderment. “Who even gave you permission to enter this property and…”
Bastien interrupted her immediately. “The DUIO is here on behalf of the director of Vanderwood to ensure the safety of the students.”
“That...” Now it was Harlow's jaw that dropped as she searched for words. “I knew what I was doing when I forbade your insane unit from snooping around here and hired a specialist for this bothersome hacker. But now you're taking revenge on me by collaborating with this incompetent...”
Bastien cleared his throat and adjusted his tie. “Your minute is almost up.”
She snorted indignantly, then looked at me.
There it was again. That eagle-eyed gaze.
If Bastien hadn't shown up… I didn't even want to know what she would have done to me.
She glared at Bastien. “This wasn't our last conversation, Mr. DeLoughrey!”
Interesting. The DUIO had wanted to find the hacker, but Harlow had refused and hired a specialist. And now Bastien was working for Alarik?
Finally, Harlow turned around, threw her leopard-print scarf over her shoulder, and strutted away in her brown leather business dress.
I heard Bastien sigh quietly, which surprised me, because the man was usually excellent at controlling his emotions.
He turned to me, and the sunlight hit his face, making his gray eyes shimmer.
I froze and stared, because it was as if I had slipped into Alice's diary. As if I were seeing the Bastien of the past standing before me. A tall, dark blond man with attractive features.
He looked at me strangely, and I heard the Madame's footsteps fading into the distance.
Where Are You Two Going
Mr. Kamera
“Thank you...” ...for saving me from that monster.
Although I didn't know which of the two was the bigger monster. Like all DeLoughreys, like my best friend, he fed on blood. I had great respect for these people and didn't feel entitled to breathe the same air as this family.
Bastien kept his cool gaze, looked me over, and finally took a deep breath, as if I were the reason for all his problems.
I had no idea where I found the confidence to speak to the man in front of me, who could suck the blood out of me in seconds.
“What do you want from me?” I asked before he could say anything. “I'm not one of you. The thirst for blood has completely disappeared, I don't have fangs, and my eyes don’t glow red anymore.” The last part was a lie, but he didn't need to know that. “So, what do you want?”
The man's expression darkened, and he crossed his arms behind his back, just like Miles always did.
“Answers. Something's wrong with you.”
I sighed.
I had already figured out that much.
He continued to stare at me as if something about me bothered him. Nervously, I checked to see if my clothes were on the right way around, if there was a sign sticking out somewhere, and remembered the blueberry stain, but he was already continuing.
“I was looking for Diana, but she has disappeared without a trace.”
A bitter laugh broke out of me. “She wouldn’t be the first to disappear without a trace.”
The man's gaze darkened even further, and I searched for further reactions.
