“What are you doing here?!” Mikhail forced out, his tension mounting. His whole body seemed stiff, as if he were doing everything he could to suppress a possible transformation.
Before I could step out from behind Mica, a black Ferrari appeared on the forest road leading down here. Instead of the usual screech of tires, sand was thrown across the beach. The driver's door opened smoothly, and the tall Ruisangor with jet-black hair got out. As always, he was dressed entirely in black, sunglasses of the same color hiding his eyes.
“Miles!” he exclaimed, more or less under control, and closed the door of his car. Tension resonated in his deep, cold voice.
The passenger door opened and out stepped... another reason why I would love to dump the two sports cars up there on the slightly higher section of the beach into the sea.
Her red curls seemed more voluminous than usual. And, of course, she was wearing a black luxury dress with a belt and a white fur coat.
Her gaze swept unimpressed over the scene until she spotted me.
I didn't want to look at her, so with growing anger in my stomach, I looked back at Miles, who had finally taken his eyes off me.
He didn't even turn around when he spoke his next words.
“Adrian, look at the lovely little party we have here.”
He looked from Nash's guys to Mikhail's men until his gaze settled on me again.
I wanted to hate him. For always showing up everywhere and messing up my life. For not leaving me alone. For challenging me again and again. For that dance at the winter ball. And for now being constantly in my head, playing with my feelings non-stop, taking advantage of the fact that my hormones were falling for all the shit he did to me when we were alone.
“You should get out of here as soon as possible,” Mikhail growled.
Miles gave Mikhail a gleeful look. Yet I thought I detected a spark of hostility and contempt in his dravite tourmaline eyes.
Another luxury car drove up and parked next to Adrian’s. A BMW. Bastien stepped out. On the passenger side…
My eyes widened.
The lawyer. Camille.
What were they all doing here? In my family's territory...
“Damn it, Miles!” Bastien shouted, but remained beside Adrian. “What did I tell you!”
More and more people around us had now stopped talking and turned to look at us.
Miles sighed before raising his voice and turning to Adrian. “Looks like someone needs some backup from Mommy and Daddy.”
Miles seemed calmer than usual. But also slightly annoyed, as if something wasn't going the way it should. As if someone had thwarted his plans.
A queasy feeling mingled with all the confusion in my stomach.
One last person got out of the BMW. A tall man wearing a black coat over a black suit and leather gloves of the same color. Another Ruisangor. And not just any Ruisangor, no. It was the new economics professor. Miles' father.
“Where the hell is Larissa?” muttered the brown-haired man with the grim expression who looked to be in his thirties.
Larissa? She wasn't supposed to be here...
The realization hit me hard.
Oh no...
When I realized that something was going on here that I didn't know about, I looked around in alarm, but couldn't find the biker girl anywhere. I automatically looked for Bayla, but without success, so I searched Miles' face for clues.
Something in his expression visibly changed. Any hint of arrogance and lightheartedness disappeared. Instead, his prominent jaw ground against his taut skin.
“What is he doing here?” Miles pressed out uncharacteristically grimly before slowly turning away.
