She narrowed her brows.
“There is no Rule 111.”
Alarik put on a fake smile and strode past her to the door, where he handed Miles his half-full whiskey glass.
“Now there is.” He opened the door and turned around one last time. “Rebecca.”
Her jaw dropped.
And even though I was frozen in paralysis, I couldn't help feeling a sense of triumph.
“You!” she exclaimed, turning toward the door, but Alarik had already disappeared.
She pointed her bony finger at Miles.
“I'm not done with you yet!”
Suddenly, she turned to me.
My whole body stiffened.
What if the others noticed? What if she knew?
I hated it. It was destroying me from the inside. She was destroying me completely.
“And you” She stepped closer, her face contorted with rage. “If you're really part of the security team, you'd better take care of that damn hacker scum!” I looked away, hoping she would never notice the birthmark on my left eye. “Otherwise, I'll make sure you're kicked off this team.”
I didn't want to nod, did everything in my power not to attack her, doubting my body would ever be able to actually do it.
Suddenly, she spun around and rushed to the open door, where curious students were passing by and already peeking inside with their phones out.
“Professor Copeland!” she shouted. “You can’t just come up with rules!” She stepped into the hallway and disappeared. “Stop right there! Immediately!”
I stared into the void for a while.
No one said anything.
When I couldn't take it anymore, I stepped toward the door with clenched fists, ignoring the stares directed at me, and finally disappeared into the long corridor.
I wanted to get out of here, wanted to transform, and I wanted Rebecca Harlow to be erased.

Vivienna, Amber, and Kelly had gone downtown to do who knew what, so Bayla and I had taken the opportunity to meet up at the student accommodation.
It was difficult to be near her on campus without one of the Senseque giving her a hard time for it. The Jones brothers, in particular, seemed to have made it their mission to warn Bayla about me.
Sighing, I got up from the couch and rushed through the ground floor to the dining table, where Bayla was sitting in front of her huge olive-corn-pineapple pizza with way too much cheese, and where Julie was engrossed in her laptop.
Both looked at me, startled.
“What?” I laughed but quickly realized what had startled them. “Come on. This is my normal speed.”
