A Society of Traitors

There was a knock at the door.

We all turned our heads.

I braced myself for the worst, but not for the two people who actually appeared in the doorway.

Miles' face was smeared with blood, as was his neck. His eyes glowed red. Next to him was his sister.

What was she doing here?

Emely sucked in her breath almost audibly, which made Miles look at her and... smirk.

If he kept this shit up...

“Come in,” Alarik sighed, as if they weren't two Legacy Ruisangors.

Stunned, I looked from Miles and his sister to Alarik, then back to the two of them.

Larissa closed the door, but without taking her eyes off me. And of course she was wearing those damn tight black jeans that perfectly framed her ass, as well as that much too thin black tank top that did the same for her breasts under her black biker jacket.

Miles seemed to have beaten the last bits of my brain away.

Both of them stood next to the door as if they didn't dare to come any closer, even though Miles leaned casually against the wall and seemed to be eyeing Emely.

“I don't understand what you guys enjoy so immensely about beating each other up,” Alarik commented with an amused undertone, shaking his head as he poured his whiskey glass a little too full. “I mean, don't you have anything better to do?” He gave a snort before turning to Nash. “What does this guy do to you...” He pointed at Miles with the glass in his hand. “...that you keep falling for it?”

Nash, who was sitting with his elbow resting on the armrest, put his head in his hand and continued massaging his temple, his watchful gaze fixed on Miles.

My own temple was throbbing. Thanks to that Ruisangor bastard.

“He doesn't know his limits,” Emely murmured darkly.

Miles chuckled brazenly but kept his mouth shut.

Good for him.

“It worked back in my day.”

Everyone in the room was now looking at Alarik, who was gazing out of the huge window at the campus lawn that was slowly filling up again, as if lost in thought.

Somewhere in the distance, I heard the loud clacking of heels in the hallways, but the Legacy girl distracted me.

Larissa cleared her throat. “You went to university with a Ruisangor?”

Alarik turned around, chuckling softly before raising a hand.

“Don’t distract from yourselves.”

Larissa raised an eyebrow, which sent even more confusion racing through my brain.

A long, dark blonde strand came loose from behind her ear. She had flawless skin, crystal-clear brown eyes, and the fullest, most natural-looking lips I had ever seen on a real woman.

My jaw automatically tensed.

The clacking of heels stopped outside the office door.

Miles' gaze shifted to the door, followed by Larissa's.

Suddenly, the door burst open.
