If the Alpha found out about this...
The professor tore his gaze away from the blonde girl and turned to us. He threw the ball at Noah with full force, and the impact knocked Noah back, causing him to stumble.
Clearly enraged, the professor ripped the helmet off his head and threw it to the ground.
“Have you lost your goddamn mind?!”
Nash wanted to yank Noah back, but Noah shoved the ball into his hands and stepped past him toward the man.
“Why so protective all of a sudden?” he laughed provocatively and took off his helmet, as did the rest of the team. “I thought you hated the little Blair bitch?”
I also took off my helmet and looked at the blonde girl, whose cheeks were turning red.
The professor clenched both hands into fists.
“She's pregnant, damn it! Are you crazy, throwing a ball at her?!”
The man was right. No matter how much the Quatura pissed us off, we had no right to attack them at random.
I knew I was biased, that I had nothing against the Quatura per se, because Azara was one of them, because I knew that their nature, their magic, was not the reason why the Quatura behaved so nastily in Blairville.
So whatever this Quatura had done to Noah, her unborn child was not to blame.
The man was about to lunge at Noah, but the girl stepped onto the field.
“Quentin...” she blurted out, and I thought I detected concern in her voice.
The man turned to her.
“Quentin?” Noah laughed and ran his fingers through his now even sweatier dark blond hair, which caused said Quentin to turn back to him.
His jaw cracked audibly.
“I would recommend that you get out of here now,” he hissed.
Noah raised both eyebrows. “Are you threatening me? Will you give me a bad grade on the next…”
That was the moment when the DeLoughrey came jogging over and stepped between the two of them.
“Relax, doggie. Just because your professor doesn't want to renew your chew toy subscription because you don't pay attention in class...”
“Fuck off!” Noah snapped.
I didn't know whether to laugh or let my aggression run wild too. After all, DeLoughrey had no hesitation in treating us with disrespect. In even approaching us.
I spotted Emely pulling the white-haired girl off the field, her expression concerned. Miles looked around, and when his scrutinizing gaze landed on Emely, who skillfully ignored him, I thought I detected thoughtfulness in his brown eyes.
And by now, at the latest, I realized I had been absent for too long. A language was being spoken here that I didn't understand. And there seemed to be connections here that I knew nothing about.
Why was Emely taking the pregnant girl away from the edge of the field when she had hated the Quatura six months ago? Why were the girls giving each other such intense looks? And what in God's name was going on in the skull of that Ruisangor bastard?
The mistrust in my gut grew.
“I said, fuck off!” Noah blurted out, and Miles spun around.
Noah wanted to rush at him, but Miles skilfully dodged him, a grin on his lips. Noah swung his arm and Nash tried to pull him back. Unsuccessfully.
“Looks like someone's got their little rascals out of control,” Miles said amusedly, causing Hunter, Marten and the other guys from the pack to step forward with clenched fists.
