I tore my gaze away from her before I could get hard again and wondered at what point in my fucked-up life I had lost my mind.

“Get into position!” the coach yelled.

Another player wearing number twenty-two entered the field, where a red-haired girl with corkscrew curls patted him on the shoulder before sitting down in the grandstands... among the few other Transformed, who all stood out in their black uniforms.

The mistrust in my chest returned and I stared back at the young man who was now rushing toward the coach.

“Sorry I'm late.”

The audience began to whisper excitedly and some of the girls even started cheering.

When I recognized his voice, I stepped out of my team's line.

“What's he doing here?” I muttered unenthusiastically.

The aggression in my chest reached a new peak.

Noah next to me laughed as if he was about to lose his mind.

So, they hadn't been talking bullshit after all.

“Long story,” Nash sighed with audible exhaustion.

I hadn't wanted to believe the guys when they had told me that he was now part of the team. But there he was, heading straight for the other team, who had positioned themselves in front of us, ready to crouch down.

“Are you serious?!” I blurted out.

Miles DeLoughrey spotted me, and I thought I saw him grin under his helmet before he positioned himself five men down the line, opposite Hunter.

“Wheeler!” yelled the coach. “Get in position!”

Asshole. If only he knew what he was letting onto his team.

I took my position, but kept an eye on the bastard.

He also took his position correctly and... patted the strange human next to him on the shoulder with a grin.

“Hello, big boy.”

Did he just call this prof big boy? What the hell was wrong with the DeLoughreys?

When Coach Brennon blew his whistle, Nash grabbed the ball and sprinted off, followed by the entire opposing team.

I decided to move as far away from Miles DeLoughrey as possible. If he came closer on his own, I wouldn't be able to guarantee anything.

I looked at Emely, who was staring after the Ruisangor, but then she spotted me and raised both hands questioningly.

I pointed at the Ruisangor and ran my index finger along my throat.

Emely rolled her eyes and looked back at the jerk.

She was probably just as unhappy about his presence as I was, but she had more patience than me.

I focused on the professor and decided to stay close to him so I could tackle him if anyone got the idea to throw him the ball.
