What had the girl expected from someone like him? That he would praise her? Pet her hair and give her a treat?
I didn't want to blame her, but him. He was the asshole, probably one of the many reasons why there was such a thing as a broken heart.
When I realized I was still standing behind the column, panic shot through my body.
I had heard the girl's footsteps... but not his. And I knew he was a Senseque.
As if he had read my mind, footsteps sounded.
Get out of here. Now!
But what if he already assumed I was gone?
The footsteps were getting closer...
He seemed to be walking through the courtyard and... entered the colonnade. The very one where I was desperately hiding behind a ridiculous column, as if I were a coward.
I lowered my hand and dug my fingers into the cold sandstone.
It wasn't like with Adrian, where I didn't know what to expect. Where I had been so fascinated by that asshole who had turned out to be my uncle in the end.
This guy was a Senseque who hated my kind, who wanted us dead.
The footsteps stopped.
“You”
His voice was the same deep, hostile one he had used the last few times he had been in my presence.
Shit, shit...
Why was I hiding? Where was my self-confidence? What was he supposed to think? That he was able to freak me out?
“Biker girl.”
He knew I was here.
With all my newfound self-confidence, I stepped out from behind the pillar.

When our gazes met, there was silence for a moment. It was as if our eye contact alone was enough to transport us back a few minutes.
My goose bumps returned.
His gaze darkened and the hostility in his voice was reflected in his facial expression.
“I knew it,” he muttered. “You all smell the same.” He stepped closer. One step, then two, until only six feet separated us. “Were you planning to spy on me?”
Spy on him? Him? What did he think of himself?
I laughed half-heartedly. “Do you really think I’m that bored?”
Everything in me fought against stepping back as he took another step toward me.
“People like you tend to waste time.” He looked at the ground and laughed dryly, but the laughter didn't reach his eyes. “After all, you have plenty of it.”
