It was enough that there had been a secret society in the late nineties and that Alarik had been part of the whole thing.
“You don't understand,” Cody sighed, and I looked back at Miles. “Coincidences exist, but when you look at all this...”
“Let me guess? The Blairville Killer is actually the clan leader of another Legacy Clan that was thought to have been wiped out centuries ago and is now planning to take over Blairville?”

The red-haired bombshell seemed to be telling Miles something, but he was still staring at Kieran.
And suddenly I had an idea.
I turned completely toward my best friend, moved closer, and lifted my leg, just to put it over Kieran's lap, ignoring the mud splatters on his black jeans.
Cody had wanted to say something, but fell silent, and Kieran seemed to freeze.
“Emely...” he began, clearly irritated by my action, but I leaned forward and untied my shoelaces, only to tie them again.
“I just need to tie my boots...”
Kieran said nothing, and I looked up at him, smiling innocently to keep myself from looking at Miles.
I took it a step further by pretending I couldn't quite reach my foot and leaning against Kieran's chest.
“Wow, is there something going on between you two?” Cody asked, looking between us with raised eyebrows.
An amused grin played around the corners of his mouth, revealing his dimples.
“What are you talking about, Cody?” I replied, taking my leg off Kieran’s lap after tying my shoelace.
“I’d also like to know why you’re rubbing all over me like a damn cat, Emely.”
I looked at him with fake confusion.
“I don't know what you mean.”
He looked confused, which I found amusing because he was usually the most confident man I knew.
If another woman did that to him, he would take the bait, tie her shoe, and then let her invite him back to her dorm to do God knows what kind of dishonorable things with her.
But Kieran and I had developed a sibling-like relationship over the years, which I welcomed because it made him the only member of the pack I could go running with in the woods without my brother spying on me or asking annoying questions. Cody was another exception, since he always avoided going hunting.
Kieran raised an eyebrow, and his rare grin returned.
“Oliver?” He looked around, and immediately a blush shot to my cheeks. Before he could spot Miles, he looked at me, because we both knew Oliver Bexley wasn't here. “Oh, right. He's at the Blairville weather station.”
Or in a patrol car...
“Oliver?” Cody blurted out, and I looked at Kieran warningly. He just grinned gleefully. Asshole. “Oliver Bexley?” Cody laughed so loudly that some students who obviously wanted to study in peace but seemed to be slowly giving up turned to look at us. “Oh my God! I have to tell the others!”
My eyes widened, and at the same time, the girl three seats away from him rolled her eyes, grabbed her things, and got up to leave.
Cody lowered his voice again and gave me a conspiratorial look.
“And I thought you weren't interested in men.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Miles, who raised both eyebrows with a smirk.
