I glanced to the left, where the other law students had disappeared earlier, before overcoming the last few inches and reached for the book.
“Not only does it look like you're doing something forbidden, even I feel like I'm watching you do something illegal.”

Startled, I spun around.
If my heart had been beating wildly before, now it was hammering relentlessly against my chest.
Overwhelmed, I stared at Miles, who stood three meters away with both hands in his pockets, slowly closing the distance between us without breaking eye contact.
The scent of almond and masculinity flooded my senses, overpowering the smell of Ruisangor, which pumped adrenaline through my veins, and my knees suddenly felt as if I no longer had full control over them.
Miles' eyes glinted as he took the last step and I simultaneously stepped back, but bumped into the shelf and gasped in shock.
Twenty centimeters separated us.
His mere scent was enough to make me question everything I believed in. All morality. Everything that was right.
Memories came flooding back. Of the winter ball, of the abandoned seminar room, of every miserable time he had gotten too close to me.
He wore his straight hair loose, as well as the top two buttons of his black shirt, revealing his smooth chest, which I desperately tried not to look at.
Instead, I stared up, past the strands of hair that hung over his forehead, straight into his cognac eyes. Damned hunter's eyes, now glinting playfully, framed by sharp, long eyelashes, fine as knife blades. Aesthetic. Dangerous.
Never before had I felt so vulnerable.
Enemy. This is your enemy, Emely. He wants you dead. He's playing with you. You are his prey. He will be your downfall...
Miles took his gaze off me and looked past me.
I was about to gasp for air when his eyes found mine again and he suddenly leaned forward... past me, without taking his eyes off me.
Goosebumps overwhelmed me and I held my breath, fighting against all the wrong emotions this man was triggering in me, until self-hatred rose up inside me.
Miles pulled a book from the shelf, past my head, and took his eyes off me, which made me dare to take a breath, but not without keeping my eyes on him.

“Indigenous Law.” He raised both eyebrows, and only then did I notice that he had taken out the book. “I think you just inspired me for next semester’s module selection.”
With both eyebrows still raised, a smirk crossed his face, and he looked up with his eyes only.
My gaze settled on his smooth lips.
God, what the hell was I doing here?
I forced myself to look away from his lips and searched for his gaze again.
“As if you care about anyone's rights,” I pressed out, and at that moment, my anger for this asshole finally returned.
He was probably only studying law to make his goddamn gangster family even richer.
“I chose law for fun, Emely. But since I realized that it's really a lot of fun to have a rival like you, I feel like I'm thriving in this major.”
