A Society of Traitors

If I had to, I would go along with that bullshit. But not to play in any national games with these guys, even if I had what it took.

I was rarely a good team player, and they knew it.

“Kieran.” Emely approached me. Her expression was serious. “You're not going to hurt anyone. Don't forget that you're back in Blairville. Different rules apply here.” She looked concerned. Of course she was. As always, she was worried about the pack. “No one will get hurt. No one will die.” She sounded demanding. “Remember the treaties.”

“Don't worry,” I said, mirroring her serious gaze. “I just want to show him his place.”

“Maybe then he'll withdraw from the election,” Cody laughed.

Emely turned away from us with a sigh and walked across the hall. “I bet that will only motivate him more to mess with you guys.” She laughed, and there was something slightly crazy about it. “Miles knows no boundaries.”

I clenched my hands into fists.

“I don’t like that you guys have so much to do with this guy.”

“Me neither,” Nash huffed, and I remembered the day his ex had stood with the bloodsuckers. He had almost jumped through the ceiling.

“He should disappear,” Noah said, slamming the ball onto the gym floor so hard that Cody flinched. “They should all disappear.”

His eyes had started to glow, just like the others', and the dark veins emerged on their necks, peeking out from under their sleeves.

“Are we here to get upset about the Ruisangors or to play?” Emely asked, turning to us. As soon as she saw us, her irises also flashed yellow. “Come on, Noah!” She held her arms up, and Noah automatically threw the ball. “New teams!”

We regrouped and played another round.

I had already secured the ball when Emely appeared in front of me.

“You're seriously crazy, Kieran.”

She hadn't said anything earlier, but I knew she was referring to the break-in.

I grinned. “I missed you too, Emely.”

She snatched the ball from my hands and ran off, grinning, dribbling it in front of her, skillfully dodging everyone else before sinking it into the basket, and Noah patted her on the shoulder in appreciation.

I took a deep breath.

It felt good to be back here, even though I had never really been away.

I had thought they would all lose themselves in their studies, just like I had a few years ago, but they stuck together, and that gave me hope that I would have support for my plan.

None of them knew who I really was, and it would stay that way.

I would take advantage of some of them to achieve my goal, but it was necessary if they wanted their campus back.

I laughed to myself and shook my head.

How could you ever think you had the right to even set foot on this campus, Rebecca?

Anger boiled up inside me, mixed with a feeling of superiority.

My hands clenched into fists as I walked through the hall.

I will destroy you. Every fraction of your existence. Until the day I wipe you out.

I knew I only had one trump card, and I had to play it well. And that was the damn campus.

The campus was an arena. My arena. I was the game master. The students were pawns in an elaborate strategy game for power at Vanderwood. And although the games hadn't even begun, I felt that the time for revenge was long overdue.
