Adrian's face showed emotion for the first time. He raised his eyebrows, albeit barely noticeably.

Suddenly, he took a step closer, and now there was only half a meter between us. If he wanted to, he could kill me right here and now and quickly disappear. No one would suspect him.

My family couldn't do anything to him if he decided to leave the university and remain in Ruisangor territory. Maybe they would be glad that I would finally stop causing trouble. At least I wouldn't be a danger to anyone anymore.

“I'm not afraid of you,” I lied, because as tough as I had to appear due to my permanent inner emptiness, I also respected Legacy Ruisangors.

He leaned down slightly toward.

“You should be.”

I took a step closer and lifted my head, jutting my chin out toward him.

Now there were maybe twenty centimeters between us, but the barely visible hint of surprise in his eyes, which were beginning to turn dark red, was worth it to me.

“You should be more afraid of me.”

I felt ice forming around my fingers, which meant that my eyes had also begun to glow.

Adrian was completely fixated on them.

“I am the only killer in this town I can guarantee is worth fearing.”

Adrian either had no emotions or was good at hiding them. His stare was empty, less overwhelming to me than that of others in this town.

Finally, he stepped back.

“I'm not here to kill you.”

“How reassuring,” I muttered impatiently.

The others were probably wondering where I was.

“I'm here to warn you.” He lowered his voice and slipped his hands into his pants pockets. “You're pregnant. And obviously, everyone here believes you're the mother of the child from the prophecy.” Another shadow flitted across his face. “Consider this my warning to get out of this town if you value your life.”

Now I was confused. This was Adrian DeLoughrey. Was he warning me from someone?

“Why are you doing this?”

He took a deep breath and glanced around briefly, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.

“I hate chaos. And there's already enough of it in my family because of those irritating Copeland mutts.” He sounded cold. As if he wouldn't hesitate to kill one of them, to kill me, if his family demanded it. “Our clan doesn't need more disturbances just because your Circle thinks it can suddenly turn against us because one of them is expecting a child.”

This time, I was the one who took a deep breath.

“Your clan is welcome to turn against the Circle.”

Adrian's jaw began to move. His eyebrows furrowed even more.

A cold draft swept through the hallway and crept into my blouse.

“You hate your own kind?”

“I despise them. Every single one of them,” I gritted out, seeking his gaze.

“They are your only protection.”

I raised my hand and Adrian looked up at the elegant round lamp, which was instantly devoured by ice crystals.
