“We will take increased security measures to protect the students and teaching staff of this institution.”

Ridiculous, Rebecca. Ridiculous. Whatever you're doing here, you won't get away with it. I know why you're here. You're trying to fill the gaping hole I left inside you. And I'm going to tear it even wider. I promise.

“I will make sure that whoever committed this act of vandalism is held accountable for their audacity!”

I thought I caught a glimpse of a grayish shimmer in Rebecca's crystal necklace.

“The game is over for the person who allowed themselves that mistake.”

I couldn't help but smirk.

How could the game be over when it hadn't even really begun?

Even more euphoria filled my tense body.

Provoke me, Rebecca. Go on, keep provoking me.

“And now back to your lectures!”

A groan went through the auditorium and it felt like being in a concert hall.

Rebecca continued, undisturbed. “Everything has its order.”

She looked through the crowd one last time and the thrill inside me reached a new high when she barely missed me.

All of a sudden, she literally threw the microphone into the hands of the girl with long, pink hair – Shani – who almost dropped it if Alarik hadn't lunged forward with his hand at the right moment and caught it.

Then Rebecca stormed off the stage as loud murmurs erupted in the hall and the crowds pushed toward the exits.

The journalists rushed toward the stage stairs, a few camera flashes went off – I automatically looked away, because flash photography had a nasty habit of making Senseque's eyes look yellow in photos if one didn't consciously suppress this reaction – and the next moment the co-director was already surrounded by the Blairville Daily.

I decided not to spend another second here and made my way along the side of the hall, resisting the urge to pull my hood over my head before passing through one of the less crowded side exits.

Something cold brushed against my hand, making something inside me freeze. My body reacted faster than my brain would allow, so I stopped and turned my head.

Everything inside me hoped I was mistaken, but that hope died instantly when I stared into deceptively gentle, deep brown eyes.

Unlike her blonde hair her eyelashes were dark, forming a thick black frame around her deep mahogany deserts.

She had also stopped, looking startled, just as she had on the night of the winter ball. Probably just as I was looking now.

Fuck.

When I hunted these people, I wore gloves. Even when I killed them, I made sure not to touch them. Something about direct skin contact with these creatures unnerved me, even though Transformed couldn't trigger anything with their touch, unlike Legacy Ruisangors.

Legacy Ruisangors, like this strange girl who stared at me as if I were her death, ready to destroy her in the most painful way.

Just the thought of doing so sent a slight tingle through my stomach.

I somehow tore myself away from her eyes and managed to lower my gaze to her hand.

Touching her felt like a sin. As if I had touched the gates of hell. A damn mistake of coincidence.

I managed to look up from her hand, but before I could remember who I was and how I should behave toward her, a dark shadow appeared next to her.

His gaze darkened, and I mirrored the guy's expression.

Black suit pants, black shirt, black jacket, and a silver Rolex. Raven-black, neatly combed hair and a sharp, angular jaw. Plus the darkest brown eyes I had ever seen.
