Soren sniffed around for a little while until he disappeared behind a large waterfall.
I sucked in a gasp. “Soren!” I hissed.
A moment later, he bounded out, his tongue lolling from his mouth, and jerked his head—a sign to follow.
I grimaced. “I have to get wet.”
If a wolf could roll his eyes, Soren certainly would have.
Gathering the pack tighter, I hopped from the bank onto the rocks and followed the wolf behind the spraying wall of water.
“Holy shit.”
We stood in a large open cavern, one that was surprisingly dry.
“Did you know this was here?”
Soren shifted. I jerked my eyes away, making Soren laugh.
“My pack?” I tossed it in his general direction.
“Such a virginal attitude,” Soren said with a click of his tongue.
“I’m not a shifter,” I growled. “Most people don’t suddenly drop their clothes in front of their friends.”
“Then you haven’t spent enough time with Rowan’s people,” was his chiding response.
The sounds of clothing sliding over his skin made me turn fully around. We were friends, but Soren was a specimen, and I didn’t want to think of a friend’s nether regions while we were alone in the woods. Especially not with all the complicated shit I was dealing with.
“I’m decent,” Soren said.
I turned around to see laughter in Soren’s eyes. “We can hang out here until the worst of the storm passes.”
A loud crack of lightning punctuated his words.
“Just in time.”
Soren nodded. “Seems like a bad omen.”
“Or a gift that will allow us to sneak up on her.”
Soren stayed silent, but the tightening of his eyes told me he didn’t agree.
A gift. It had to be.
Chapter
Thirty-Three
It rained for hours and got so bad, there was no way I could go outside. Rain sheeted sideways across the water, spraying us in the face until we moved deeper inside the cave.
“A gift, eh?” Soren joked.
“Shut up, or I’ll toss you outside.”
Soren tossed me another protein bar. “You can try.”
“Probably couldn’t lift your enormous ass anyway.”
