Rowan poured them both a glass of tea and handed one over to Evie. “You should move into Evie’s old cottage.”

Evie’s face lit up. “Yes! That’s a great idea.”

My apartment was small, and Evie’s ask earlier had me contemplating what the hell I was going to do, but this was a good solution.

“We won’t be there much,” I said and looked at Soren.

The Lord was still slouched against the cushions. “Whatever, Moira darling. I shall follow you.”

“If you’re sure,” I said to Evie.

Her face lit up. “We’ll have it ready in a few hours.”

“Good with me.” I slapped Soren’s shin. “I’ll need to pack some stuff to move over. Stay here for a bit. I won’t be long.”

Soren’s eyes narrowed as if he could tell I was lying. Hell, maybe he could. Vampires didn’t have the same heart rate as humans or shifters, but a Lord had far better senses than other paranormals.

One of Evie’s eyebrows rose. She knew exactly what I was about to do.

I gave her a reassuring smile and stood. “Back in a little while. Mind feeding this oaf?” I asked Evie.

My friend’s face softened when she looked at Soren. Unusual, because Soren, like most of the Lords, irritated the shit out of her.

Soren was still looking at me, his bright gaze seeing far too much.

“We’ll feed him.” Evie flicked her fingers at me. “Do what you need to do.”

I left Soren there and hurried back to my apartment. When I was finally there, I kicked off my boots, shrugged my jacket off, and poured myself a stiff drink.

“Come and see me, you coward,” I said softly.

I didn’t have to wait long to see an emerald and gold shimmer through the air. Cernunnos appeared a moment later, dressed in jeans and a dark blue sweater.

He was too powerful to pass for human, and he could never quite get the eyes right. Tonight he didn’t even bother.

I poured him a drink and handed it to him before padding over to the couch.

“So you’ve found out about Soren.”

“Why would you do something like that to him?”

Cernunnos had the gall to laugh. “I didn’t force the Lord to do anything he didn’t want to.”

“What are you giving him in return?”

Cernunnos jerked his head toward me. “He didn’t tell you?”

“No. I suspect Evie knows.”

He grimaced. “Yes. I suppose she would. She’s always been persuasive. Soren wouldn’t have been able to hold out against her for long. He wouldn’t tell you?”

I shrugged. “I didn’t feel right about pressing him.”

“I’m giving him exactly what he asked for. Nothing more. Nothing less.”

“Cryptic as always.” I put my socked feet on the coffee table and sipped my drink. “If you wanted to break up with me, you could have just said so.”

The god sighed. “The last thing I wanted to do was break up with you.” He snorted. “Break up is such a human term. You and I are sitting next to each other sharing a drink. We are not broken.”
