Cernunnos gave me a wicked grin. “I would burn through worlds for you, Moira. Even if a greater power ensnared me and I forgot who you were and what you meant to me, I would still find my way back to you.”
My breath caught. “You say the prettiest things,” I breathed.
He pressed a hard kiss to my lips and adjusted his position to lie by my side, opening his arm so I could cuddle against his chest.
“Do you love me, Moira?”
I went still. “Gods, Cernunnos. You can’t just blurt something out like that.”
“Why not? Are we not past the human trappings of a normal relationship?”
“We are, but why would I admit to loving you if you don’t love me?”
“I never answered the question.”
“Answering puts me in a vulnerable position.” I sighed and snuggled against him. “How about we table this conversation for a while?”
“Mmm. Because you’re leaving soon, aren’t you?”
I muttered a savage curse. “Am I that predictable?”
“To the people who love you, yes.”
“So Evie knows then.”
“Of course she does.”
“Will she try to stop me?”
His chest rose in a heavy sigh. “Has she ever once stopped you from doing a single thing you set your mind to?”
“Ugh. Why are all of you so—so wonderful?”
His laugh was warm and rich. “We all know what it’s like to crave vengeance. For many years, Evie burned with the desire even as she battled her fear. If this is what you need, none of us will stop you.”
“A week,” I said.
“Ah. And the weapons maker plans to go with you.”
“Nothing is secret around here,” I grumbled.
“The silence bubble gave things away.”
“I don’t know when I’ll be back.”
“Will you take Ember?”
I stilled. “Will he come?” A fox companion could come in handy. He didn’t speak, but he communicated all the same.
“He will come and go as he pleases. Make the offer at least. Ember will find you when he’s ready.”
“I will.”
We lay there together in silence for a while.
“So…do you love me, Cernunnos?”
He smiled against my hair.
