I said, “I love that so much, sing another verse.”

“I will if ye join in the chorus.”

“Deal.”

He sang, “I will build m’love a bower, by yon clear and crystal fountain, and all around the bower, I’ll pile flowers from the mountain…”

And I joined in when he sang, “...will ye go, lassie, will ye go? And we’ll all go together to pull wild mountain thyme all around the blooming heather, will ye go, lassie, go?”

He grinned.

I said, “I love that, let’s do another verse.”

He sang, “…and if my true love, she winna hae me, I will surely find another tae pull wild mountain thyme all around the bloomin’ heather…”

I laughed, “Hey, that love song turned weird. Fix it, pronto.”

He sang, “… I would never find another, m’love will always hae me, she loves when I storm her fortress and happily opens her gates…”

I said, “Much better, she sounds lovely. Now the chorus.”

We both sang, “Will you go, lassie, will you go? And we’ll all go together to pull wild mountain thyme all around the blooming heather, will you go, lassie, go…?”

1308 - WE DON’T MAKE IT, SO WE CAMP

At the end of the day, Torin yawned loudly.

I said, “You know it’s not on me to complain, Torin, but how much longer?”

“Och, I dinna calculate it well enough, tis goin’ dark, we hae tae…” He shifted in his seat. “We hae a few miles tae go.”

He turned around and looked behind us. “We could go back…”

I pouted. “I don’t want to go back, I want to go to Clackmannanshire.”

“Twill be near midnight when we arrive.”

“Oh no, I can’t do that.”

“Dost ye want tae go back?”

“I don’t want to ride anymore, my butt hurts. Is there another option?”

“We can sleep in the woods.”

“That doesn’t sound… is it safe? What about, I don’t know, lions? Are there lions?”

“Nae lions, tis the wolves we need tae worry about.”

“Torin! Now I’m freaking out.”

“Princess, ye wanted me tae be more honest!”

“Not about wolves, right before you’re going to make me sleep in the dark.”
